As the company's second line of defense, Corporate Risk — or Independent Risk Management — provides independent oversight of risk-taking activities. Independent Risk Management establishes and maintains Wells Fargo's risk management program and provides oversight, including challenges to and independent assessment of, the frontline's execution of its risk management responsibilities. We manage risk according to the Risk Management Framework and ensure all employees understand their individual accountability for managing risk. Corporate Risk roles depend on a variety of skills, including: Data analysis and synthesis, root cause analysis, change management, process management & execution, risk governance, risk strategy, risk identification & assessment, risk prevention, controls & mitigation, risk monitoring, reporting & escalation, risk systems & technology.

The credit officer will focus on basic counterparty credit analysis for hedge funds and other leveraged funds that transact with Wells Fargo in capital markets and wholesale sales/trading businesses. This will consist of trade approvals, initial credit reviews, and ongoing annual reviews of leveraged fund counterparties. This business activity may include, but is not limited to: prime brokerage, futures & OTC clearing, bilateral derivatives, FX, repo, securities financing, and secondary loan trading. In particular, the role will primarily center on managing counterparty credit risk with hedge funds in the firm’s Wholesale businesses of Prime Services and the Futures Commission Merchant (“FCM”). The credit officer will support Senior Credit Officers in the preparation of credit packages and annual reviews; working with multiple lines of business to understand the business and risks being undertaken with these counterparties; performing ongoing monitoring of counterparty quality and credit exposures; and conducting due diligence with hedge fund clients. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to display flexibility in handling other counterparty types and other traded products as necessary.



Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following: market risk, capital markets, trading, or interest rate risk; or a Master s degree or higher in a quantitative field such as applied math, statistics, engineering, accounting, finance, or econometrics


Desired Qualifications

  • A BS/BA degree or higher
  • Credit underwriting experience
  • Strong credit analysis skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of hedge funds, fund of funds, broker dealers, insurance companies, regulated funds, and other non-bank financial institutions (NBFI)
  • Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong communication skills and ability to articulate complex material to a diverse audience


Other Desired Qualifications

• Ability to partner with a wide range of colleagues including sales, trading, legal, operations
• Experience in covering hedge funds, CTAs, and other leveraged fund counterparties; 
• Experience in negotiating basic credit terms in legal documentation with hedge funds (ISDA, MRA, Prime Brokerage, FCM, etc.)
• Experience in covering broker-dealer counterparties
• Experience in dealing with counterparty traded products including derivatives and financing trades
• Experience in analyzing financial statements
• Experience interacting with external clients, both in person and on phone
