Job Description

The Manufacturing Technician provides hands-on support across multiple production areas to ensure that daily operations run smoothly, production schedules are met, and output consistently aligns with customer delivery requirements. This role combines machine operation, process support, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration to sustain throughput, improve process reliability, and maintain a stable, predictable manufacturing environment. The position requires strong technical aptitude, disciplined execution, and the ability to work closely with hourly union technicians and other teams across the main production floor.

Responsibilities

  • Support daily manufacturing operations on the main production floor to maintain production flow and ensure output meets customer delivery requirements.
  • Assist hourly union technicians throughout the production area to help ensure the production schedule is met.
  • Operate a variety of production machines and equipment safely and efficiently, following established procedures and standards.
  • Monitor machines during operation, identify any issues or abnormalities, and promptly report problems to the appropriate personnel.
  • Float across multiple production areas as needed to provide hands-on support where demand is highest.
  • Develop and maintain setup documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and process control documents to reinforce quality, repeatability, and operational consistency.
  • Support process development activities across multiple manufacturing areas to drive continuous improvement and scalability.
  • Drive improvements that enhance efficiency, reduce downtime, and support on-time production, using a disciplined and data-informed approach.
  • Provide hands-on technical support for machines, systems, and production equipment, including basic troubleshooting and adjustments within defined limits.
  • Utilize data tracking tools and computer systems to perform data entry, monitor performance, identify trends, and support operational decision-making.
  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment, clarity on priorities, and timely resolution of production and equipment issues.
  • Follow detailed procedures and work instructions precisely, ensuring accurate documentation of work performed and adherence to quality and safety standards.
  • Contribute to a safe and organized work environment by following all safety guidelines and maintaining cleanliness around workstations and equipment.
Essential Skills
  • At least 2 years of experience in a relevant manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate production machinery and equipment in a manufacturing setting.
  • Hands-on experience with production, assembly, and running machines.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting capability for manufacturing equipment, automation, or precision systems.
  • Ability to follow detailed procedures and maintain accurate documentation in a regulated production environment.
  • Proficiency using a computer for data entry, email, and basic data tracking tools.
  • Professional communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and with hourly union technicians.
  • Comfort working in a manufacturing environment with multiple machines and production lines.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Familiarity with manufacturing equipment, automation, or precision systems.
  • CAD proficiency, which is preferred and considered a strong asset.
  • Experience developing or working with setup documentation, SOPs, and process control documents.
  • Experience using data tracking tools or basic production reporting systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to support process development and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and reliability in a fast-paced production environment.

Work Environment

This is a 6-month contract role with the possibility of extension and an opportunity to transition to a direct position in the future. The position is based in a large, advanced manufacturing facility located near the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland, with a sizable production footprint dedicated to aerostructures and structural components. Work takes place on the main production floor in a manufacturing environment that involves operating and supporting various machines, automation, and precision systems. There are three primary 10-hour shifts, all on a straight schedule: 1st Shift runs Thursday–Sunday from 6:00am to 4:00pm; 2nd Shift runs Thursday–Sunday from 2:00pm to 12:00am; and 3rd Shift runs Thursday–Sunday from 10:00pm to 8:00am. This shift structure provides balanced coverage across high-demand periods to prevent delays, quality risks, or unplanned workload redistribution. All contractors complete 30–60 days of training on a Day Shift schedule (Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:30pm) before transitioning to their assigned shift, ensuring they are fully prepared to support production safely, effectively, and with minimal oversight. The environment is professional, process-driven, and safety-focused, with an expectation of appropriate industrial attire suitable for a production floor.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
