Title: Production Operator – Roofing Manufacturing
Mt. Vernon, IN
12-hour pitman schedule shift (2-2-3)
3 + months contract
About the role
We're hiring multiple Production Operators to join our client's roofing manufacturing line in Mt. Vernon, Indiana. This is a hands-on production role on a high-output line that turns fiberglass mat, asphalt, and ceramic granules into shingles for homes and buildings across the country.
If you've worked in manufacturing, warehousing, construction, or any physical, team-based environment — or if you're a veteran, trades-trained graduate, or experienced shift worker looking for stable, well-paid work — this is a strong fit.
What you'll do
You'll be part of a small, tight-knit crew running the production line. On any given shift, you'll:
- Operate and monitor the line — feeding raw materials in, watching speed, temperature, and product quality
- Pull product samples and record readings to make sure every shingle meets spec
- Step in quickly to clear jams, re-thread the line after sheet breaks, and troubleshoot small issues
- Drive a forklift to move pallets of finished product and bring raw materials to the line
- Perform basic maintenance, cleaning, and housekeeping on your assigned equipment
- Communicate clearly with your crew, the outgoing and incoming shift, and your supervisor
The schedule
12-hour shifts on the 2-2-3 Pitman rotation: work 2 days, off 2, work 3, off 2, work 2, off 3 — every other weekend off (a full 3-day weekend). You'll rotate between day shift (typically 6 AM–6 PM) and night shift (6 PM–6 AM) every two weeks.
Who you are
- High school diploma or GED
- Comfortable with rotating 12-hour day/night shifts
- Physically capable of standing 12 hours, lifting up to 50 lbs regularly (and 80 lbs with a partner), and using ladders and catwalks
- Comfortable in a noisy industrial environment with fiberglass, asphalt, granules, and seasonal heat/cold
- Safety-first mindset and a willingness to follow procedures even when they slow you down
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong team player — small crew dynamics matter
A plus if you have
- Prior manufacturing, warehouse, food production, or construction experience
- Forklift certification
- Mechanical aptitude — folks who've worked on cars, farm equipment, or done home repair tend to do well here
- Rotating-shift experience
