Manufacturing Piping Engineer
Location: On site in Champaign, IL
A confidential industrial manufacturer is expanding critical engineering capability at one of its major production sites and is seeking a Manufacturing Piping Engineer to help lead piping design, plant improvement, and project execution efforts. This is an opportunity to step into a highly visible role where your work will influence facility reliability, modernization planning, safety performance, and long-term operational efficiency. The right person will enjoy a hands-on environment, meaningful collaboration with plant and project stakeholders, and the chance to shape how complex piping systems are designed and improved across an active manufacturing operation.
What You Will Do
- Lead piping scope for capital and maintenance projects inside a high throughput manufacturing campus.
- Translate process and equipment needs into practical piping layouts, line class selections, and construction packages.
- Review calculations for pipe stress, flexibility, support loading, and pressure boundary performance.
- Partner with process, operations, maintenance, EHS, and outside contractors to move projects from concept through startup.
- Conduct field walkdowns to validate tie ins, access constraints, constructability, and shutdown planning requirements.
- Contribute to internal engineering practices, specifications, and lessons learned that improve repeatability across projects.
- Mentor less experienced engineers and designers while supporting schedule, budget, and technical decision making.
- Ensure designs align with applicable codes, site standards, and safe operating expectations.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Background designing piping systems for heavy industrial, chemical, food processing, energy, or other complex manufacturing environments.
- Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as ASME, ANSI, API, or comparable frameworks.
- Experience using common design and analysis tools for drafting, pipe stress review, flow analysis, or vessel related calculations.
- Professional Engineer licensure is valued, and candidates on a path to licensure are also encouraged to apply.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to balance plant needs, project deadlines, and technical detail.
Why This Role Stands Out
This position offers the chance to work on meaningful plant projects that directly affect uptime, safety, and performance. You will join a team that values practical engineering judgment, cross functional partnership, and continuous improvement in a manufacturing setting where strong technical leadership makes a visible difference.
