MANUFACTURING ENGINEERING LEAD
Summary/Objective:
The Manufacturing Engineering Lead is responsible for overseeing the mechanical and electrical construction (assembly) of complex machines and automation. They ensure that the machines are built according to specifications and meet quality and safety standards. In this position, you will work with Program Management (PM), contractors, builders, and engineers.
The job description of a Manufacturing Engineering Lead includes the following responsibilities:
- Monitoring the machine build process to ensure that it is progressing smoothly and on schedule.
- Coordinating with engineers, designers, and other team members to ensure that the machines are built to meet specific requirements.
- Collaborate with engineering to approach the Machine build in a layered systematic approach.
- Organizing a plan for inventory specialists to follow to allow for a layered systematic build approach.
- Sourcing of fabricated parts and ensuring vendors respect the Leadtime and quality expectations.
- Leading daily stand-up meetings and associated problem-solving tracking documents.
- Supervising a team of machine builders and technicians, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Troubleshooting any issues that arise during the machine build process, working with the team to find solutions.
- Ensuring that all safety protocols and regulations are followed during the machine build process.
- Maintaining documentation and records related to the machine build process, including blueprints, schematics, and work orders.
- Manage Machine shop and its operations.
Ordering tooling when needed
Maintaining equipment per mfg specifications.
Assign workload with collaboration with Project coordinator.
Implementation of Improved processes such as fusion 360
Daily Tasks:
- Create work schedule for Technicians.
- Measure strength and weaknesses of Technicians.
- Hire Technicians when needed with the consent of management.
- Assign appropriate tasks to Technicians
- Counsel Technicians when needed.
- Ensure that work is always in good progress.
- Keep Project Manager updated on project development.
- Make sure that work is completed on or before deadlines.
- Ensure that the safety of Technicians is always guaranteed.
Education, Technical Qualifications, and Experience:
- Manufacturing Engineering background preferred.
- Post-secondary degrees, including associate's or bachelor’s in engineering, may be necessary or preferred.
- Intimate understanding of automation components and how they function.
- Understanding of the layered build process to maximize efficiency and accuracy.
- Understanding mechanical prints to make decisions concerning potential tolerance stack-up issues.
- Ability to discern between print, fabrication, and assembly issues effecting fit and function.
- Experience working with computer-aided drafting (CAD) software.
- Experience with CNC machining, specifically with a CAM focus.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and designs.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and panel layouts.
Note: Photon designs electrical prints using AutoCAD Electrical
- Knowledge and experience using drafting tools and machinery.
- Safety-conscious with an extreme respect for established safety guidelines and rules
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office and manufacturing environment. This role routinely uses standard shop equipment. This role will also be exposed to industrial equipment including but not limited to lathes, mills, and forklifts.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, 40-hours per week position, and typical hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Additional shifts may be assigned as business needs dictate and occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel
Travel is expected of this position on installations and depends on company needs.
