In this position...

The Paint Engineering Electrical/Controls Engineer will develop and lead process, equipment & facility development related to current and new electrical/controls technologies. 

What you'll do...

The Paint Engineering Electrical/Controls Engineer will develop and lead process, equipment & facility development related to current and new electrical/controls technologies. 

In this role you will work in 4 primary areas:

Development:

• Develop and improve existing and new process and equipment controls and monitoring standards, test methods, and specifications for the design, specifications and procedures related to electrical/controls systems to improve current and future vehicle programs and manufacturing processes. Including:

 

Controls Standards & Specifications

  • Define and maintain design standards, specifications, and procedures for electrical and controls systems
  • Support commissioning, testing, validation, and long-term maintainability
  • Drive consistency across global manufacturing environments

Industrial Automation Systems

  • PLC Hardware & Software 
    • Process equipment and conveyor systems
    • Architecture, programming standards, diagnostics, and lifecycle support
    • Exposure to safety devices such as E-stops, light curtains, interlocks, or safety PLCs.
  • HMI Hardware & Software 
    • Standardized visualization, alarm handling, and operator interaction
  • VFD Applications 
    • Motor control strategies, energy optimization, diagnostics, and protection
  • Ford Supervisory systems – IIOT Monitoring & Factory Information Systems (FIS) 
    • Integration of controls data with manufacturing execution and reporting systems
  • ASRS (Automated Storage & Retrieval Systems) 
    • Controls architecture, performance requirements, and system integration

IIoT & Digital Manufacturing

  • Develop IIoT standards and specifications for data acquisition, connectivity, and analytics
  • Enable scalable, secure data flow from the shop floor to enterprise systems

Industrial Networking & IT Convergence

  • Define and enforce industrial Ethernet standards
  • Ensure IT/OT connectivity, cybersecurity compliance, and network conformity
  • Support high-availability and deterministic network design

 

Global Risk Assessment Development

• Supplier interface for questions and conformity

Consulting:     

• Consult on the electrical/controls aspects during the introduction of new advanced technologies and specifications throughout Vehicle Operations.

Technical Service: 

• Experience supporting equipment commissioning, startup, and system validation.

• Ability to troubleshoot controls, electrical, and network-related issues in a production environment

• Exposure to root cause analysis and corrective action processesProvide technical assistance, implementation assistance, downtime support, training and coaching to Plants and VOME.

• Creatively apply technology to the paint shop environment.

• Leverage of suppliers in the planning, development, and implementation of paint finishing systems and processes.

• Experience in using problem solving methodologies, trouble shooting, system development tools.

• Develop cost models and business cases as applied to controls and IT connectivity methodologies.

• Interact with supply base, equipment & component manufacturers, on a global basis.

• Communicate effectively (verbal and written) with all levels of management

• Travel and work in U.S., and abroad (Canada, Mexico, South America, Europe, Asia) up to 60% of the time.
