Join a team that plays a critical role in keeping the City of Fort Dodge running smoothly. As a Utility Systems Maintenance Worker II, you’ll support the installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of the City’s water distribution systems, as well as storm water and sanitary sewer infrastructure. This is hands-on, essential work that keeps our public utilities safe and reliable.

Perform maintenance, installation, and repair of hydrants, valves, water mains, service lines, and sewer systems
Operate a variety of tools and equipment, including backhoes, jet trucks, valve trucks, and camera trucks
Inspect materials and construction work to ensure quality and compliance with standards
Participate in emergency repairs and standby duty as needed
Maintain a strong focus on safety, efficiency, and process improvement
Accurately read and interpret maps, plans, and technical documents
Ensure proper upkeep of tools, vehicles, and worksite safety practices
Graduation from High School or GED and two (2) years experience as a laborer/driver, including one (1) year maintenance and repair of mechanical hydraulic equipment, water valves, hydrants, main and service lines and storm water and sanitary sewer construction and maintenance experience;
or Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
Required Special QualificationsValid Iowa Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with air brake and tanker endorsements and no suspensions or revocation for moving violations within the past two years. Certificate as a “trained competent person” (as applied to trenching/shoring OSHA standards).
Preferred Special QualificationsValid Iowa Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A.
Grade I State of Iowa Water Distribution License.
Grade II State of Iowa Water Distribution License.
Grade III State of Iowa Water Distribution License.
CPR and First Aid Certified.
