3rd Shift Maintenance Technician

Job Description

The Maintenance Technician maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs blow molding and injection molding equipment in an industrial manufacturing environment. This role focuses on diagnosing issues, performing preventive and corrective maintenance, supporting equipment installations and overhauls, and optimizing processes to achieve safety, quality, and productivity goals. The technician develops and documents processes, supports process improvement and new technology initiatives, and collaborates with multiple departments as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on blow molding, injection molding, and related industrial equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on production machinery and support equipment.
  • Tend to a group of blow molding machines, including Uniloy and Bekum machines, ensuring they operate safely and efficiently.
  • Conduct frequent quality checks on products, monitoring weight, sidewall thickness, flash, and other critical attributes, and adjust equipment to correct defects.
  • Perform quality checks and basic analysis on product quality, documenting findings as required.
  • Monitor and adjust heat controls, cooling water temperatures, pressures, extruder settings, and hydraulic units to maintain optimal operating conditions.
  • Maintain accurate daily production and quality reports, ensuring records are complete and up to date.
  • Troubleshoot processes and perform minor repairs on all machines and support equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Monitor and adjust bottle processes to optimize bottle quality and minimize scrap and waste.
  • Perform mold and line changeovers efficiently and safely.
  • Operate and troubleshoot blow molding and injection molding equipment with proficiency.
  • Follow proper machine start-up and shutdown procedures in accordance with company and machine requirements.
  • Assist with the installation of new machines and equipment, including setup and commissioning.
  • Support cross-training of other technicians by sharing knowledge and best practices.
  • Support process improvement initiatives and new technology implementations to enhance safety, quality, and profitability.
  • Develop and document processes and procedures related to equipment operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Assist various departments and leaders as required to support production and maintenance goals.
  • Comply with all quality, safety, and work rules, including Good Manufacturing Practices and housekeeping standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and contribute to overall facility cleanliness.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in industrial manufacturing maintenance, including machine troubleshooting and repair.
  • Hands-on experience with blow molding and injection molding equipment, including operation and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of blow molding processes, especially on Uniloy and Bekum machines.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Experience with extrusion molding equipment and processes.
  • Ability to troubleshoot PLCs and perform basic PLC-related diagnostics.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot 110v–480v single-phase and three-phase electrical systems and components.
  • Experience working with three-phase motors, AC and DC drives, fuses, relays, and switches.
  • Strong electrical maintenance and industrial maintenance skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics.
  • Proficiency with hand tools and basic maintenance tools used in industrial environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities in a fast-paced production setting.
  • Ability to perform maintenance and repairs on conveyors, motors, and conveyor systems.
  • Commitment to following safety procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices, and housekeeping standards.
  • Ability to work effectively in a demanding, “rougher” industrial environment while maintaining a positive attitude.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Two-year technical degree or completion of an accredited apprenticeship program in a related field, or approximately five years of equivalent work-related experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with maintenance and repair of blow mold and injection mold machines in a plastics manufacturing setting.
  • Familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and PLC troubleshooting.
  • Experience with maintenance repair on industrial equipment, including installation and commissioning.
  • Strong willingness to focus on achieving goals and completing tasks, not solely on compensation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with production and maintenance teams and to support cross-training efforts.
  • Resilience and strong will to handle challenging maintenance tasks and production demands.

Work Environment

The facility operates approximately 14 blow molding machines and lines, supported by around 35 production employees per shift and a team of three maintenance personnel on each shift. The plant is well lit and generally clean, but it remains a demanding, “rougher” industrial environment typical of high-volume plastics manufacturing. You will work around blow molding and injection molding equipment, conveyors, motors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and PLC-controlled machinery. The role requires comfort working on and around energized equipment, rotating machinery, and production lines, while adhering to strict safety, quality, and housekeeping standards.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $58240.00 - $72800.00/yr.
