Job Description

The Maintenance Supervisor establishes, implements, and maintains long-range plans to continuously improve maintenance activities while providing technical support to manufacturing operations. This role ensures the effective use of personnel, materials, and equipment to support Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, and Cost (SPQRC) initiatives. The supervisor leads a team of skilled tradespeople, oversees maintenance and construction projects, and drives safe, reliable, and efficient equipment performance on the production floor.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and actively support corporate safety policies, initiatives, and plant housekeeping standards to maintain a safe and orderly work environment.
  • Diagnose equipment malfunctions, determine root causes, and initiate both immediate corrective actions and long-term solutions in collaboration with the maintenance team.
  • Support the plant in achieving Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, and Cost (SPQRC) goals through effective maintenance planning and execution.
  • Supervise construction and maintenance projects, ensuring they meet schedule, budget, and quality requirements.
  • Assist in the implementation of divisional and corporate policies within the maintenance function.
  • Maintain production and maintenance schedules while ensuring work meets established quality standards.
  • Implement and reinforce safety and good housekeeping standards across all maintenance activities.
  • Train, develop, and evaluate maintenance employees to build a high-performing team.
  • Comply with the terms of local and national labor agreements while supporting divisional and corporate policies.
  • Initiate and maintain contact with internal and external teams, including production and other support functions, to collaboratively solve technical and operational problems.
  • Plan and implement preventive and planned maintenance activities to maximize equipment uptime and reliability.
  • Complete assigned work within budget, manpower, and timing constraints, effectively allocating resources to meet operational needs.
  • Monitor issues identified on system monitors or control screens, diagnose problems with the team, oversee implementation of solutions, and ensure proper documentation of corrective actions.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively between maintenance and production teams to align priorities, address issues quickly, and minimize downtime.
  • Use preventive maintenance databases to track daily preventive maintenance activities and ensure accurate maintenance records.

Essential Skills

  • Experience supervising a team of 20 or more tradespeople in a maintenance or production environment.
  • Hands-on maintenance supervision experience supporting production operations.
  • Production supervision experience with a focus on supporting general assembly processes.
  • Ability to work effectively with others and collaborate across maintenance and production teams.
  • High-level analytical ability to diagnose complex equipment and process issues.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to lead, coach, and develop a diverse maintenance workforce.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills to coordinate activities and document solutions.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings to support troubleshooting and project execution.
  • Knowledge of assembly processes and how maintenance activities impact production performance.
  • Experience working with basic machine shop equipment to support maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Blueprint reading skills to understand equipment layouts and system designs.
  • Knowledge of complex mechanical and electrical concepts to diagnose and resolve equipment malfunctions.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures applicable to a manufacturing and maintenance environment.
  • Proficient problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify issues, develop solutions with the team, and follow through to resolution.
  • Experience using preventive maintenance (PM) databases to track and manage daily preventive maintenance activities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in a general assembly manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to see issues on system monitors, work with the team to diagnose root causes, implement solutions, and accurately record corrective actions.
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly between maintenance and production teams to align priorities and resolve conflicts.
  • Comfort working with basic machine shop tools and equipment in support of maintenance projects.
  • Familiarity with corporate and divisional policy implementation in a plant setting.
  • Ability to work with local and national labor agreements while maintaining positive working relationships with the workforce.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing plant environment with a strong emphasis on safety, housekeeping, and adherence to established procedures. The position operates on a 3rd shift schedule from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., with an expectation to work two out of three Saturdays each month, typically following a pattern of 19 days on and 2 days off. You will work closely with both maintenance trades and production personnel on the shop floor, regularly interacting with equipment, assembly processes, and basic machine shop tools. The environment requires consistent use of preventive maintenance databases and monitoring systems to track equipment performance and maintenance activities. Standard industrial attire and appropriate personal protective equipment are required to safely perform daily tasks in and around production machinery.

This is a Contract position based out of Lansing, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
