Job Description

The Maintenance PLC Technician performs daily preventive and corrective maintenance on manufacturing equipment, including robotics, PLCs, electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, while also supporting facility maintenance and expansion projects. This role focuses on troubleshooting and repairing equipment breakdowns to minimize downtime, installing and upgrading equipment on new and existing production lines, and ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all machinery to maximize productivity.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain safety as a primary focus by regularly reviewing and updating safety procedures based on suggestions, near misses, incidents, and new developments, and by following all safety protocols and regulations.
  • Perform predictive and preventive maintenance to continuously improve production processes and reduce unexpected equipment failures.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and repairs on manufacturing machinery, including diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues.
  • Inspect equipment regularly to identify potential problems and proactively address them before they result in equipment failure or production interruptions.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical components such as motors, switches, sensors, and PLC inverters to restore and maintain proper equipment function.
  • Install, calibrate, and program PLC inverters to optimize machine performance and support production efficiency.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to implement machine upgrades, modifications, and improvements to existing production lines.
  • Support facility maintenance and participate in facility expansion projects by addressing equipment, utilities, and infrastructure needs.
  • Keep accurate and detailed records of all maintenance activities, including inspections, repairs, parts replacements, and equipment adjustments.
  • Monitor maintenance-related inventory levels and ensure adequate stock of critical spare parts and supplies.
  • Identify major cost drivers within machine maintenance and contribute ideas for cost-effective improvements and efficiencies.
  • Conduct regular audits of equipment and maintenance practices to ensure compliance with company standards, industry regulations, and safety protocols.
  • Confirm compliance with required certifications, inspections, and reporting related to equipment and facility maintenance.
  • Work effectively under time pressure to prioritize tasks, respond to breakdowns, and meet production and maintenance deadlines.
  • Communicate clearly with team members, engineering, and production staff to coordinate maintenance activities and minimize production disruptions.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Maintenance and PLC Technician or in a similar maintenance role within a manufacturing environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing electrical systems, including PLC inverters and related industrial electrical components.
  • Strong understanding of industrial machinery and mechanical systems, including motors, drives, gears, and bearings.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, technical manuals, and equipment documentation.
  • Solid understanding of electrical systems, wiring, circuits, and electrical components used in industrial automation.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical systems and their interaction with automation and control equipment.
  • Knowledge of automation technology, including PLCs, and familiarity with industry standards and regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience with troubleshooting and preventive maintenance on industrial equipment and automation systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze system faults, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize multiple tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities to collaborate effectively with engineering, production, and maintenance colleagues.
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate maintenance records and documentation.
  • Ability to maintain a professional and positive attitude while handling changing business needs and maintenance demands.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • PLC programming proficiency is a plus, including familiarity with ladder logic, function block diagrams, and structured text programming languages.
  • Experience troubleshooting and maintaining PLC-controlled systems and automation equipment.
  • Experience conducting regular equipment audits and supporting compliance with certifications and reporting requirements.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing business needs and willingness to take on additional responsibilities as required.
  • Familiarity with predictive maintenance practices and continuous improvement methodologies in a manufacturing setting.

Work Environment

This role is based in a very clean, modern manufacturing facility that produces a new generation of power transmission lines designed to be lighter, stronger, and more resistant to environmental degradation than traditional products. The position operates on 2nd shift, Monday through Friday, from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., with flexibility required to work additional hours as needed to support production and maintenance demands. The environment is highly safety-conscious and technology-driven, featuring industrial automation, PLC-controlled equipment, robotics, and advanced electrical and mechanical systems. The facility emphasizes organized work areas, up-to-date equipment, and a professional atmosphere focused on reliability, quality, and continuous improvement.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Huntington Beach, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
