MAINTENANCE MECHANIC

Position Objective

Reports to the Maintenance Manager and/or Maintenance Coordinator or Chief Mechanic.  Under direction, performs all types of maintenance work on the various unit operations of the Authority's wastewater treatment plant so as to maintain the proper level of operation required by the Federal and State regulatory agencies.  Performs other work as instructed.

 

Responsibilities

Receives assignments for work to be performed throughout the day from the Maintenance Manager and/or Maintenance Coordinator or Chief Mechanic and is responsible for completing those assignments utilizing the proper tools and methods.  Corrective maintenance work performed throughout the plant includes but is not limited to repairing pumps, valves, piping, screening equipment, grit collection equipment, chlorination and UV equipment, digester gas collection and distribution systems, Belt Press units, sludge and chemical additive conveying equipment, stationary diesel engines, stationary gas engines, etc.  Preventive maintenance work includes lubrication of equipment, changing oils and filters, etc.

 

Candidate participates in safety and related training, as well as cross-training for other RVSA positions as may be determined by the Authority from time to time.

 

Qualifications

  • Must be able to speak, read, and write English fluently; High School Diploma or GED required.
  •  Lifting and carrying a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Trade school or minimum five (5) years related experience required.  Welding experience and EPA 608 HVAC certification preferred.
  • Must be able to respond to a call-in during emergencies.
  • State of NJ Office of Boiler & Pressure Vessel Black Seal Low Pressure License preferred.
  • Valid NJ Driver’s license required.
  • Must be able to be trained and certified to operate forklift and backhoe.

Salary/Compensation: $40.76 per hour
