Maintenance Engineer

The Maintenance Engineer provides technical expertise and hands-on support for equipment maintenance and reliability initiatives within a Tier 1 automotive manufacturing environment. This salaried role reports to the Maintenance Coordinator or Engineering Manager and operates with the autonomy to troubleshoot complex issues, make technical recommendations, and execute repairs based on equipment condition, safety standards, and production requirements.

This role requires a Strong shop-floor presence with hands-on technical leadership and a High sense of ownership for equipment performance. The position balances approximately 70% shop-floor and 30% desk-based responsibilities. A key focus is maintaining a safe, professional, and collaborative workplace while remaining a Structured problem solver under production pressure to minimize operational downtime.


Key Responsibilities

  • Execute maintenance activities across molding, welding, lamination, laser, and automation equipment
  • Respond with high urgency to downtime and safety issues
  • Perform detailed troubleshooting and root cause analysis
  • Maintain and optimize PLCs, robotics, EOATs, and automation systems
  • Implement cost reduction strategies regarding uptime, micro-stops, cycle time, and scrap
  • Assist with new equipment installation and commissioning
  • Coordinate with external service suppliers for technical support
  • Support continuous improvement and capital projects

Material & Inventory Support

  • Monitors inventory levels of spare parts, tools, and maintenance supplies to ensure availability for repairs.
  • Records parts usage and equipment maintenance history accurately in inventory management systems.
  • Conducts regular audits of spare parts to identify shortages or obsolete items.
  • Ensures materials are stored, labeled, and organized to support quick retrieval.


Performance Monitoring & Compliance

  • Monitors maintenance KPIs such as equipment uptime, MTTR, and MTBF to identify performance trends.
  • Prepares technical reports summarizing equipment performance and resource utilization for management.
  • Ensures all maintenance tasks comply with internal procedures, engineering specifications, and safety standards.
  • Compliance with PPE, safety rules, and LOTO is strictly required at all times.
  • Adheres to industry standards such as ISO, OSHA, and environmental regulations during all repairs.


Qualifications and Requirements

  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Degree or 10 years of equivalent hands-on experience
  • 10+ years of manufacturing experience
  • 5+ years of automotive experience
  • 2+ years of Tier 1 Injection Molding experience
  • Experience with injection molding machines such as Engel, KraussMaffei, or Haitian
  • Experience with foaming machines, hot plate welding, vacuum lamination, vibration welding, and automated assembly stations


Technical Skills

  • Proficient in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, and automated equipment.
  • Skilled in using CMMS, ERP software, and inventory tracking tools to manage work orders.
  • Knowledgeable in robotics, PLCs, and vision systems including diagnostics and calibration.
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and standard operating procedures.


Physical & Work Environment

  • Manufacturing plant environment
  • Exposure to noise, heat, and moving equipment
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders
  • Capable of lifting to 50 lb.
  • Flexibility to support off-shift, weekend, or emergency maintenance activities as required.
