POSITION SUMMARY:

The Machinist II is responsible for the production of valves and parts to meet specifications utilizing machine tools and equipment, such as lathes, mills and other types of machinery. This individual is knowledgeable in the programming of machines and skilled in the operation of machines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines and other types of machinery.
  2. Read and understand complex machining blueprints.
  3. Write both simple programs and edit existing machining programs as needed.
  4. Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations.
  5. Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
  6. Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
  7. Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment in order to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs.
  8. Measure all parts machined to ensure proper dimensions.
  9. Maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
  10. Clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment in order to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter.
  11. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  2. Must have minimum three to five (3-5) years of intermediate machine programming and operating experience.
  3. Forklift experience preferred.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, ETC:

  1. Must have proficient computer skills.
  2. Must possess good mathematical skills.
  3. Must be able to adjust machine speeds and feeds.
  4. Must be able to read and interpret prints.
  5. Must have ability to operate a forklift.
  6. Must have ability to multi-task.
  7. Must be detail-oriented and pay close attention to accuracy.
  8. Ability to think outside of the box and utilize reasonable deduction.
  9. Possess excellent communication skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Environment: Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor shop environment; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards, and all types of weather and temperature conditions.

Physical: Primary functions require physical ability and mobility to walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time; to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp, and make repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; to infrequently climb on ladders or stairs; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight; to operate assigned equipment and vehicles; and to verbally communicate to exchange information. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Personal protective equipment (PPE), including steel toe shoes and safety glasses, must be worn at all times while in the shop.

Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction.

Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  1. All employees are to be indoctrinated in the QMS within sixty (60) days of hire.
