Machinist I (Temporary)

The Machinist I is responsible for operating basic machine tools to produce precision metal parts. This role involves setting up and operating manual and CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines, interpreting blueprints, and ensuring that parts meet specifications and quality standards. The Machinist I will work under the guidance of experienced machinists and supervisors.
Job Duties & ResponsibilitiesMachine Operation: Operate manual and CNC machines (lathes, mills, grinders, and drills) to produce parts according to strict specifications.
Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret technical drawings and engineering specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances.
Tooling Setup: Set up and adjust machine tools for production runs, including selecting cutting tools and adjusting speeds and feeds.
Quality Control: Inspect finished parts using precision instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal working condition.
Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety procedures and regulations to maintain a safe work environment.
Documentation: Record production data, including quantities produced, downtime, and scrap.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a machinist apprenticeship or vocational training is preferred.
Experience: Previous experience in machining is preferred; on-the-job training will be provided for candidates with the right foundational skills.
Skills:
Basic understanding of machining processes and tools.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
Basic math skills (fractions and decimals).
High attention to detail and precision.
Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
Familiarity with CNC programming is a plus.
Environment: Typical machine shop setting with exposure to loud noises, dust, and metal shavings.
PPE: Use of safety glasses, gloves, and ear protection is required.
Physical Demands:
Ability to stand for long periods.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Strong eyesight for detailed, precision-based work.
Compensation / Pay Rate (Up to): $24.00 - $26.00 Per Hour
