Job Title: Honing Machine Operator

Job Description

The Honing Machine Operator sets up and operates honing equipment to finish machined parts according to work orders, blueprints, and specifications. This role interprets technical documentation, loads and adjusts machine programs, monitors machining conditions, and performs quality checks to ensure all parts meet required standards while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work area.

Responsibilities

  • Hone machined parts in accordance with work orders, blueprints, sketches, and specifications.
  • Interpret job instructions, including tool lists, job routing, part drawings, and quality instructions, to determine machining requirements.
  • Select and set up work holding devices, tools, and fixtures needed for honing and related machining operations.
  • Load programs into machine controls and adjust settings as necessary to meet part specifications.
  • Monitor and ensure proper lubrication and cooling of work pieces during machining operations.
  • Execute machining programs, assist with measurements, and make necessary adjustments to achieve final part dimensions and finish.
  • Assist in inspecting first-run pieces and subsequent pieces to verify conformance to dimensional and quality specifications.
  • Perform inspection and quality checks using appropriate measuring tools and gauges, including bore gauges.
  • Maintain accurate records related to production, quality checks, and equipment status as required.
  • Monitor equipment functionality and report any issues or irregularities to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area in accordance with 5S standards.
  • Follow all established safety protocols and procedures while operating machinery and handling tools.
  • Work effectively within a manufacturing environment and collaborate with team members to meet production and quality goals.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience operating machines in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints and part drawings.
  • Basic understanding of CNC lathe and mill machine controls.
  • Proficiency in interpreting work orders, job routing, and technical documents.
  • Familiarity with basic shop math for measurements and adjustments.
  • Competency in using bore gauges and other inspection and measuring tools.
  • Ability to perform inspection and quality checks to ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and established safety protocols.
  • Capability to maintain a clean and organized work area following 5S principles.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working with honing machines or vertical honing equipment.
  • Background in inspection and quality control within a machining or manufacturing setting.
  • Comfort working with hand tools and standard shop equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot minor machine or process issues and make appropriate adjustments.
  • Strong record-keeping habits related to production and quality documentation.
  • Willingness to work second shift and adapt to production priorities.

Work Environment

This position is based in a standard machine shop environment on the second shift, Monday through Friday, from 3:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. You will work around CNC lathes, mills, honing machines, and related shop equipment, using hand tools, measuring tools, and inspection devices such as bore gauges. The setting involves typical manufacturing conditions, including machine noise and the need to follow strict safety and housekeeping standards, including 5S practices, to keep the work area clean, organized, and efficient.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rancho Cucamonga, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.50 - $25.00/hr.
