Job Title: Logistics Specialist
Job Description

This role focuses on managing the packaging, handling, and shipment of military, defense, and government sector products, including hazardous materials and sensitive electronics. The Logistics Specialist applies military packaging standards and MIL-SPEC requirements to ensure products are prepared, documented, and shipped accurately and securely, while using modern inventory and shipment tracking systems to support efficient logistics operations.

Responsibilities

  • Apply military packaging standards and MIL-SPEC requirements to prepare and package military, defense, and government sector products.
  • Manage the shipment of HAZMAT products and sensitive electronics, ensuring that shipping methods, packaging, and documentation meet all regulatory and customer requirements.
  • Coordinate export and customs clearance shipments, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and accurate completion of required documentation.
  • Use electronic systems and software to support inventory control, including monitoring, tracing, and tracking shipments and materials.
  • Provide logistics support for receiving and shipping operations, including pulling parts, equipment, and products as required.
  • Prepare, verify, and maintain shipping and production reports, ensuring accuracy of shipment details and material movement records.
  • Apply standard packing knowledge and Mil-Spec packing practices, including Best Commercial Practice (ASTM3951-15), to protect products during storage and transit.
  • Support shipping and receiving activities related to military, defense, and government sector products, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
  • Handle materials safely, including lifting up to 50 lbs or using a forklift when needed, to support daily logistics operations.
  • Utilize Costpoint, Deltek, and other computer systems to process orders, track shipments, and maintain logistics data.
  • Ensure compliance with HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule) requirements and use this knowledge when preparing export documentation.
  • Collaborate with production and office teams to meet logistics requirements and support on-time delivery of products.
Essential Skills
  • 10+ years of recent logistics experience; candidates with at least 7+ years of recent experience may be considered if all other experience requirements are met.
  • Proficiency with military packing standards and Mil-Spec packing requirements.
  • Hands-on experience working within MIL-SPEC standards for military, defense, or government sector products.
  • Experience handling and shipping hazardous materials (HAZMAT) and sensitive electronics where shipping methods are critical.
  • Recent prior experience working with HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule).
  • Standard packing knowledge and practical experience applying it in a production or logistics environment.
  • Proficiency with electronic systems and software for inventory control, monitoring, tracing, and tracking shipments, including exports and customs clearance.
  • Computer proficiency with the ability to quickly learn and operate internal systems, including Costpoint and Deltek.
  • Ability to pull parts, equipment, and product for receiving and shipping activities, including safely lifting up to 50 lbs or using a forklift.
  • Experience supporting logistics, receiving, and shipping operations for military, defense, or government sector products.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working with export processes and customs clearance documentation.
  • Familiarity with Best Commercial Practice (ASTM3951-15) for packing and packaging.
  • Background in logistics within a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Attention to detail in preparing shipping, export, and inventory documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple shipments, materials, and priorities.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a logistics and production team.

Work Environment

The role is based primarily on a non-climate-controlled production floor, with access to climate-controlled office spaces for administrative and system-based tasks. The facility is in an older building that houses established teams known for being collaborative and supportive. The standard schedule runs from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with occasional extended hours when needed. The position follows a 9/80 schedule, meaning employees work slightly longer days and typically have every other Friday off, resulting in 80 hours over a two-week period. The environment involves hands-on work with materials and products in a production setting, along with regular use of computers and logistics software such as Costpoint and Deltek.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.50 - $19.51/hr.
