Litigation Legal Assistant
Location: Santa Ana, CA
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (3 days onsite required)
Compensation: $85,000–$95,000 annually + comprehensive benefits
A highly regarded, confidential national defense litigation firm is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to support a busy litigation team.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, transcribe, proofread, edit, and file legal documents including pleadings, correspondence, memoranda, and court filings
- Electronically file documents with local, state, federal, and appellate courts; assist with in‑office paper filings as needed
- Maintain attorney and court calendars; track deadlines and ensure attorneys are informed of upcoming obligations
- Coordinate and schedule meetings, conference calls, depositions, and reserve conference rooms
- Assist with trial preparation and maintain litigation files on an ongoing basis
- Handle incoming and outgoing mail for assigned attorneys
- Communicate professionally with clients via phone and email, providing a high level of service
- Enter attorney time and assist with billing for assigned timekeepers
- Coordinate travel arrangements and process expense reports
- Answer and manage incoming phone calls in a professional manner
- Provide support to team members and other attorneys as requested
Qualifications
- High school diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Minimum of 2+ years of litigation legal assistant or litigation secretarial experience
- Experience in a large or mid‑size law firm environment strongly preferred
- Background in insurance defense, personal injury, or professional malpractice defense is a strong plus
- Experience with hourly billing, client communications, and working with legal departments and claims adjusters is highly desirable
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize in a deadline‑driven environment
