Litigation Attorney– Civil Rights & Complex Plaintiff’s Advocacy

CAROLINA LEGAL ASSOCIATES
Columbia, South Carolina Metropolitan Area

Senior Litigation Counsel – Civil Rights & Complex Plaintiff’s Advocacy

Are you ready to use your law degree as a catalyst for change?

Our client isn't looking for a "file-pusher." They are looking for a relentless advocate to join a premier Columbia, SC firm dedicated to complex litigation and high-stakes Civil Rights cases. From holding institutions accountable in sex abuse matters to challenging prison and police misconduct, this role is for a litigator who wants their work to have a heartbeat.

This isn't a "mill." It’s a sophisticated practice where you’ll have the autonomy to untangle legal knots, craft aggressive strategies, and protect the rights of those who need it most.

What You’ll Actually Do:

  • Pursue Justice: Lead complex civil litigation, including product liability and civil rights claims that require both legal precision and deep empathy.
  • Trial Mastery: Develop strategies that are aggressive, persuasive, and backed by evidence—not ego. You’ll be in the courtroom, not just behind a desk.
  • Draft Masterpieces: Translate complex technical details and constitutional violations into plain English for judges, juries, and opposing counsel.
  • Client Advocacy: Act as a steady hand for clients navigating some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
  • Choose Your Path: While the focus is civil, there is room for criminal defense and other general litigation that aligns with your professional interests.

What We’re Looking For:

  • The Experience: Seasoned litigation background with a proven track record in South Carolina courthouses.
  • The Skillset: You have a "poker face" for high-tension depositions and the "writing flair" to make a judge actually want to read your brief.
  • The Pedigree: A clerkship or a strong background in academic legal writing is a major plus.
  • The Vibe: You can manage a diverse, high-stakes calendar without losing your cool—or your sense of humor.

Why This Firm?

  • A Diverse Caseload: One day it’s a complex product defect; the next, it’s a landmark Civil Rights case. You will never be bored. You have the ability to work on more general litigation including criminal defense work if you want to.
  • True Mentorship & Growth: A supportive team environment where you’ll get hands-on trial experience and a seat at the table for firm strategy.
  • Competitive Rewards: Strong compensation package and benefits that reflect the high-level work you’ll be doing.
  • Authentic Culture: A professional environment that values your skills, your strategy, and your personality.
