A well-established Pittsburgh litigation firm is seeking a Defense Litigation Associate to join its busy and growing practice. The team is eager to move quickly and is open to attorneys who can step into a meaningful role immediately, including a potential leadership role.
The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of defense litigation experience (preference for nursing home/long-term care defense, or medical malpractice defense), along with proven deposition experience and strong client-facing judgment.
Qualifications & Requirements
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Active bar license in Pennsylvania.
- 3+ years of defense litigation experience, preference for experience in nursing home / long-term care defense or medical malpractice defense.
- Deposition experience is important (taken and defended depositions preferred).
- Strong writing skills, responsiveness, and the ability to manage matters with minimal oversight.
- Interest in business development is a plus (opportunities available).
Role Responsibilities
- Handle a mix of long-term care / nursing home defense, medical malpractice defense, and related personal injury defense matters.
- Draft and manage litigation pleadings, written discovery, motions, and case strategy.
- Prepare for and participate in depositions, hearings, mediations, and other key litigation events.
- Collaborate closely with partners and team members to support high-quality client service.
- (For more senior candidates) Opportunity to contribute to practice leadership in a non-equity capacity.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $100,000 – $160,000, DOE
- Leadership-track compensation may reach the $160,000+ range for the right senior hire.
- Bonus: Billable-hours bonus with a scalable formula tied to monthly targets.
- Billables: Approximately 1,800 – 1,900.
- Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, parental leave, and retirement planning.
- PTO: Up to 24 days, plus 10 paid holidays.
- 401(k): Plan includes firm contributions/match structure.
Work Environment
- Location: Pittsburgh (strong support/resources on-site).
- Hybrid: Typically 1–2 days/week WFH, with a preference for being in the office.
- Support model includes dedicated paralegal and legal assistant support for each associate.
