YOUR FUTURE BEGINS HERE!Join one of the fastest-growing cities in Arizona and the youngest in Yuma County!Under general supervision, the incumbent will provide customer services and rescue duties in support of aquatics program including monitoring activities in City pool facilities to ensure public safety and compliance with rules and regulations, rescuing swimmers, providing first aid and CPR, and maintaining equipment and facilities in a clean and safe condition.
As a Lifeguard, you will- Monitor aquatic facility and guests, and ensure compliance with rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Promote a positive recreation environment and good personal behavior, ensuring consistent enforcement of rules and policies.
- Provide customer services and information to guests; report and resolve complaints, special requests, safety conditions, security issues, and illegal activities within scope of authority.
- Prevent accidents through the enforcement of policies, rules, regulations, and ordinances governing the conduct of swimming pool patrons; monitors activities in the facilities for individuals who may need assistance or guidance.
- Clean and maintain area surrounding the pool to prevent accidents.
- Educate patrons about dangerous practices such as running on the deck and diving into shallow water; instructs non-swimmers to stay out of deep water.
- Enter the water to rescue persons in distress; resuscitate rescued swimmers; administers first aid to the injured, and calls Emergency Medical Services (EMS) on serious accident cases.
- Maintain daily log, and prepares incident, accident, and operations reports.
- Perform periodical chemical checks on the pool water.
- Assist with setting up and staffing special events.
- Participate in regular in-service training sessions.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Will possess knowledge of:
- Basic principles and techniques of lifeguarding, CPR and First Aid methods, including rescuer methods.
- Health and safety standards and methods for keeping water and surrounding areas safe for public use.
- Applicable safety precautions and procedures related to the aquatic facility.
- Software applications such as MS Office Suite of Programs including Excel Spreadsheets.
Will have the ability to:
- Understand and follow written departmental policies and procedures.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with city officials, participants, interested groups and the general public.
- Work independently or collaboratively.
- Communicate effectively with diverse populations, including large groups of people.
- Determine chlorine content and pH value of water, using water-testing kit.
Education, Training & Experience
- At least 16 years old.
- Must successfully complete a written and physical test.
Licenses and Certifications:
All required licenses and certifications must be maintained throughout employment.
- Lifeguard Training and Fingerprint Clearance Card – Level 1 (prior beginning of the employment).
- American Red Cross Lifeguard, First Aid, CPR/AED Certifications.
- Training will be scheduled upon hired.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:- Bilingual in Spanish.
- Must be able to pass an extensive background check.
- Residency in the United States and within 25 miles of San Luis.
- Ability to work during pool operating hours including evening, weekend, and holidays.
- Must maintain a level of physical fitness to meet physical requirements of the position.
Desired/Preferred:- Residency within the City of San Luis.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Previous lifeguarding experience.

Work EnvironmentThe employee works in an outside environment where the noise level may vary. The employee may be exposed to temperature changes and subject to extreme heat with temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour; as well as exposure to chemicals (water chlorine).
