COMPENSATION
Lifeguard: $16.96 - $20.62 per hour*
*New rate of $25.00 per hour pending City Council approval

LIFEGUARD
THE POSITION
Under general supervision, the Lifeguard will ensure safe use of the pool, aquatic facility and general safety of children; supervise conduct of pool patrons; enforce swimming pool rules and respond to emergency situations as required; administer First Aid, CPR, and perform other lifesaving activities. The incumbent will also be responsible for maintaining and work safely with materials and equipment, maintain accurate files and records, and perform other related duties as assigned.
This is a non-benefited, at-will part-time position with working hours to be assigned at the discretion of the Recreation Department, limited up to 960 hours per fiscal year. Employees may be assigned to work on weekends, evenings and holidays.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires sitting, standing, walking, swimming for prolonged periods, hearing and speaking clearly, and normal or corrected vision. Other physical demands include bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 50 pounds, manual dexterity to operate pool equipment, and maintaining calm mental focus during emergency situations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Employee works in an outside aquatics facility environment, in seasonal climate and weather conditions; works with slippery surface conditions, where water and swimming pool chemicals are frequently encountered; and subject to emergency situations. Employee may be exposed to chemicals associated with a swimming pool; and to body fluids with the possibility of communicable disease.
