Responsible for assisting library customers, shelving and organization of materials and assisting with library procedures relating to the circulation of materials.
Essential Functions:• Provides assistance and directions in a pleasant manner to the library customers in person, over the telephone, or by email
• Follows established library policies and procedures when assisting the public
• Organizes and shelves returned materials
• Searches the shelves for claim returns and overdue materials
• Organizes and straightens books on the shelves and ensures that they are in proper order according to the Dewey Decimal System
• Monitors the conditions of returned materials and routes to proper area and librarian as applicable
• Assists with opening and closing procedures for the unit
• Must maintain regular and punctual attendance
Additional Duties:• Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency:- Basic knowledge of library shelving system
- Must be at least 16 years old
OR - Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job

Preferences:- Bilingual in Spanish and English
- Previous library experience
Conditions of Employment:- Must pass a drug test, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check
- Must pass a physical examination
- Must be able to reach above shoulder level and stoop below knee level
- Must be legally sighted and able to hear to be able to assist patrons
- Must be able to communicate effectively with the general public
- Must be able to work a rotating schedule including nights and weekends
