Legal Assistant - Family Law

The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of support experience in these areas:

  • Supporting attorneys with law practices representing divorce, equitable distribution of property and assets, alimony and spousal support, child custody, and adoption.
  • Experience with mediations and depositions.
  • Experience with welfare proceedings.
  • Experience with trial preparations and appeal documentation.
  • Filing court documents and staying on top of deadlines and calendar updates.
  • Experience working with common pleas and superior court.
  • Experience working with Orphan’s Court and Prothonotary’s offices.
  • Experience working with Children & Youth Services.
  • Experience working with family law judges.
  • Great team collaboration, attitude, and work ethic.
  • Ability to work independently and ask clarifying questions.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school or equivalent
  • Three (3) or more years of experience as a Legal Assistant or related experience
  • Experience using PACER to search dockets, party information, and download pleadings.
  • Experience with state filings and familiarity with various county and prothonotary websites.

·        Excellent communication skills

·        Solid writing and editing skills with a focus on developing thoughtful and persuasive messaging

·        Ability to work in and adapt to a fast-paced work environment

·        Strong organizational, time management, and project management mindset

  • Experience with Lackner, and Pro Series a plus.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Outlook, Excel, Word, and other software
  • Driven self-starter with a proactive approach to supporting counsel

·        Commitment to professionalism, cooperation, and teamwork


 

BENEFICIAL QUALIFICATIONS

·        Experience with iManage document management system

·        Experience filing court documents, electronically preferred

·        Experience with ECF for federal court filings a plus

·        Paralegal certificate

·        Active Notary license 

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT | PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to:

Very minimal travel outside the office. Will perform sedentary work exerting up to fifty (50) pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects including files. Must see, hear, talk, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity, kneeling, standing, walking, stooping, reaching, and other similar tasks requiring physical activity. Will operate a computer, fax, copier, telephone, dictation systems, and other general office equipment. Work is generally performed in a temperature controlled office environment.
