Legal Assistant — Estate Planning & Trust Litigation (Part-Time, Encino)
Weitz Law is a boutique California firm representing high-net-worth families and individuals in estate planning, trust and probate litigation, and tax controversy. Our caseload includes trust contests, fiduciary disputes, complex probate matters, QPRT and grantor trust work, and the multigenerational planning that surrounds them. We work in close collaboration with the managing attorney; the right person here gets real exposure to sophisticated work from day one.
We are hiring a part-time Legal Assistant to support a fast-moving caseload across estate planning and trust litigation matters.
What you will do
- Client intake, correspondence, and follow-up across active estate planning and litigation files
- Draft engagement letters, client letters, and routine pleadings for attorney review
- Prepare and e-file probate court documents (DE-100 series, petitions, declarations, accountings)
- Manage the firm calendar, court deadlines, and matter status across multiple active files
- Coordinate document collection, exhibit organization, and hearing or trial prep
- Support billing entry, file management, and conflict checks on new intakes
What we are looking for
- 1+ year legal assistant or paralegal experience (probate, trust, or estate preferred)
- Strong written communication and detail orientation; calm under deadline pressure
- Discretion and professionalism handling confidential client information
- Comfort with modern practice tools (Clio, e-filing platforms, document automation, AI assistants) is a plus
Logistics
- Part-time, 20+ hours per week with flexibility; W-2 employee
- Mostly in person at our Encino office; some remote flexibility on the right schedule

Legal Administrative Assistant

Role Description
Weitz Law is a California firm focused on estate planning, trust litigation, trust administration, probate, and tax matters. Our caseload includes trust contests, fiduciary disputes, QPRT and grantor trust work, IRS controversy, and the multigenerational planning that surrounds them. The Legal Administrative Assistant will handle scheduling, client communication, document organization, and drafting and formatting of letters and routine filings. Prior law office experience is preferred; motivated candidates interested in a legal career will be considered.
Qualifications
- Experience with legal document preparation and file organization
- Strong communication and professionalism with clients and colleagues
- High attention to detail and discretion with confidential information
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google Workspace, Adobe Acrobat, and legal software
- Prior law office experience highly desirable; associate's degree or equivalent experience or certification
Key tasks
- Calendar management; schedule client meetings, deadlines, and court dates
- Coordinate calls and Zooms; prepare agendas and follow ups
- Maintain digital files and naming conventions
- Prepare and format letters, engagement packets, and routine court forms (probate petitions, declarations, accountings)
- Proofread for accuracy and grammar; track tasks and matter milestones across active estate planning and litigation files
- Intake, conflict checks, and initial client communications
- Scan and OCR PDFs; assemble exhibits and tables of contents for hearings and trial prep
- Coordinate signatures (e.g., DocuSign), mailings, and e-filings where allowed
- Light bookkeeping support (logging expenses, cover memos for invoices)
What you bring
- One or more years in a law office or legal services setting preferred
- Strong writing, proofreading, and time-management skills
- Comfort juggling multiple matters and deadlines
- Tech savvy; quick to learn Clio, court e-filing portals, and DocuSign
- Professional phone presence; integrity and client service orientation
Pluses, not required
- Experience in estate planning, probate, trust administration, trust litigation, or tax controversy
- Familiarity with California Judicial Council forms and e-filing systems
- Basic Excel or Sheets skills
- Comfort with modern productivity tools (AI assistants, document automation) for routine tasks
