Lead Software Engineer

Hybrid 3 days in office/week in St. Louis, MO

Our client seeks a Senior Technical Lead to guide emerging retail technologies including in-store automation, digital shelf capabilities, and item integration. The role will lead solution design, integrations, and modernization across .NET, Python, APIs, ETL, and Google Cloud. You will mentor developers, partner with architecture, and deliver scalable, reliable systems that support robotics, electronic shelf labels, and data-driven store operations. The work will influence platform strategy and measurable outcomes across the enterprise.

This is a contract to hire opportunity. Applicants must be willing and able to work on a w2 basis and convert to FTE following contract duration. Rate: $70.00 to $80.00/hr. w2

Key Responsibilities:

• Act as a technical lead on multiple projects, owning delivery, design decisions, and execution
• Provide day-to-day technical direction and mentoring for a small team of engineers (no direct reports)
• Serve as a go-to technical resource that leadership can rely on to “run with” initiatives independently
• Communicate clearly with engineering leadership and business stakeholders on status, risks, and technical strategy
• Design, develop, and maintain applications and integrations primarily using .NET and Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
• Support and modernize legacy systems as they are migrated to newer architectures and platforms
• Produce clear technical documentation and contribute to best practices and standards
• Participate in solution design discussions, API development, and system integrations
• Collaborate cross-functionally with IT, product, and business teams
• Support knowledge sharing, code quality, and continuous improvement across the team Required Qualifications

Must-Haves:

• Proven experience operating in a lead or senior technical role (project leadership, not people management)
• Strong hands-on experience with: Python and Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
• Demonstrated ability to own and drive projects independently, from planning through execution
• Experience presenting technical progress and decisions to leadership and non-technical stakeholders
• Excellent communication, documentation, and mentoring skills

Nice-to-Have / Growth-Focused Skills:

• .NET Development
• ETL / data integration experience (Talend or similar tooling)
• BigQuery or cloud-based data platforms
• API development and integration experience
• Exposure to cloud modernization and legacy system migration efforts

Skills, experience, and other compensable factors will be considered when determining pay rate. The pay range provided in this posting reflects a W2 hourly rate; other employment options may be available that may result in pay outside of the provided range.
