WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Mechanical Engineer for our Dallas, TX office.

Role Summary

The P6 Lead Mechanical Engineer is a senior technical and people leader responsible for setting technical direction, ensuring quality delivery, mentoring staff, and supporting business growth for complex building projects. This role serves as a trusted advisor to clients, a mentor to engineering teams, and a collaborator with regional and national leadership.

Your Impact

Technical Leadership & Project Delivery

  • Provide seniorlevel technical leadership for the planning, design, and construction administration of mechanical systems for vertical construction projects across healthcare, commercial, higher education, science & technology, and missioncritical sectors.
  • Establish mechanical design strategies, basisofdesign narratives, and system selection aligned with client goals, sustainability objectives, operational efficiency, and lifecycle cost considerations.
  • Serve as Engineer of Record or senior technical reviewer on complex projects; ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
  • Lead multidisciplinary coordination efforts and resolve complex technical and constructability challenges.
  • Champion QA/QC processes and peer reviews, ensuring deliverables meet WSP standards and contractual obligations.

 

Client Leadership & Business Development

  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to key clients; maintain and grow longterm client relationships.
  • Support pursuit strategies, including proposal development, technical narratives, interviews, scope clarification, and fee development.
  • Identify opportunities to expand services, crosssell capabilities, and grow market presence in the region.

People & Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop engineers and designers; provide technical guidance, performance feedback, and career development support.
  • Build highperforming project teams and foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Support resource planning and workload forecasting in coordination with discipline and office leadership.

Oversight, Risk & Financial Management

  • Oversee project budgets, schedules, staffing plans, and technical risk mitigation.
  • Monitor scope, fees, and project performance; proactively address risks, changes, and corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with WSP health, safety, and risk management policies.

Innovation & Thought Leadership

  • Promote best practices, emerging technologies, digital tools, and sustainable design approaches.
  • Contribute to regional and national technical initiatives, knowledge sharing, and standards development.
  • Remain current on evolving codes, regulations, and industry trends.

 

Who You Are

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering.
  • 10 - 15+ years of progressive mechanical engineering experience in building systems design.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex projects and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong knowledge of building codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, schedules, and technical risk.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence clients, peers, and leadership.
  • Demonstrated leadership, initiative, and commitment to quality and safety.

Preferred Qualifications

  • LEED accreditation or sustainability expertise.
  • Experience winning work and maintaining client relationships within the region.
  • Experience serving as Engineer of Record on large or complex projects.

Compensation: 

Expected Salary (all locations): $129,600 to $192,390

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
