Toolcraft Machining, Inc. is seeking a skilled Lead Machinist (2nd shift) to join our team, at our facility in Germantown, WI. The Lead Machinist is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations on 2nd shift, ensuring jobs run efficiently, quality standards are met, and production schedules are maintained. This role will serve as the liaison between machinists, quality, scheduling and management – supporting team members, resolving issues, and driving continuous improvement to meet on-time delivery (OTD) goals.


Essential Job Responsibilities:

  1. Monitor Job Performance: Track job progress, adjust machine speeds and feeds as needed, and address performance issues. Escalate problems that impact schedule or OTD.
  2. JobBOSS Oversight: Review scheduling, reports, promise dates, and material availability to help ensure jobs are properly planned and executed.
  3. Folder & Routing Review: Check for tool requirements, routing changes, or other updates critical to production.
  4. Shift Hand-Off: Ensure 1st shift is set up for success by staging materials, preparing fixtures, and providing clear instructions.
  5. In-Process Inspections: Coordinate with the quality team to ensure in-process and first-piece inspections are completed on time.
  6. Work Assignments: Assign and distribute job folders to machinists in assigned work centers.
  7. Material Coordination: Oversee staging and handling of materials; work with shipping to prevent damage and ensure fixtures are ready before jobs start.
  8. Inspection Reports: Confirm inspection documentation is completed before moving jobs to the next operation.
  9. Safety Oversight: Ensure safe work practices are exercised as it relates to lifting, work holding, and the overall work environment within the Leads assigned work area.
  10. Troubleshooting & Support: Provide help with minor machining, maintenance, timekeeping, or computer-related issues. Report on team performance, address concerns, and escalate relevant issues to management.
  11. Training & Motivation: Coach, train, and empower team members, promoting a positive, collaborative and respectful working environment. Lead by example, keeping the Toolcraft Core Values at the forefront.
  12. Continuous Improvement: Identify and propose process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve repeat job performance.


Physical Requirements of the Job:

  1. Ability to stand and move about the production floor for extended periods of time.
  2. Regularly lifting, carrying, and handling of materials up to 50 pounds.

Job Type:

  1. Full time – 2nd Shift
  2. Hourly – Non-Exempt
  3. $6,000 retention bonus paid over the first year
