Design Engineer - Portsmouth NH (Base salary $100-140k)

We're working with a premier engineering firm who is looking for a Design Engineer, Technical Leader to join their team. The Technical Leader applies a thorough knowledge of current principles and practices of engineering to perform assignments for a variety of projects in the practice of engineering. They undertake the role of technical specialist and lead design engineer coordinating and managing the design deliverable. Where required, they will also perform the duties of a Project Manager including working directly with clients to interpret, organize, and execute projects.


Responsibilities

  • Communicate and coordinate directly with the Project Manager to apply specialized expertise for advanced and complex engineering problems.
  • Apply thorough understanding of applicable codes, regulations and engineering standards.
  • Direct multiple project teams and lead multiple large and complex projects and independently manage professional engineering work on assigned projects with high degree of complexity.
  • Oversee communication with regulatory officials and clients.
  • Represent the company at conferences and tradeshows by making regular technical presentations and assign junior staff attendance including presentations on key projects.
  • Mentor junior staff and mid-level staff. May be assigned supervisory responsibilities.
  • Lead role in technical development and current technologies in field of expertise.
  • Oversee invoicing for certain projects and track costs and budget for projects or tasks.
  • Coordinate and manage additional resources as required to perform work in accordance with company standard of care to the client.
  • Oversee and review contracts, scope and budget, and schedules for assignments.
  • Lead decision making on basis of design, develop concepts, equipment evaluation, design
  • computations and oversee solutions to complex engineering problems.
  • Direct preparation of contract drawings and specifications for significant projects and stamping work product.
  • Guide preparation of permit applications, technical memorandums, reports and cost info.
  • Apply specialist knowledge of pertinent civil engineering concepts, processes, and principles.
  • Advanced technical problem solving to ensure project and client needs are maintained.
  • Review, prepare, and update company design standards and templates.
  • Providing technical engineering support to project managers and mentor junior engineers.
  • Manage project team members and consultants for complete design deliverable.
  • Review the basis of design information and materials and equipment evaluation.
  • Review and oversee calculations, technical memorandum, reports, drawings, sketches, illustrations, project manual, technical specifications, and cost opinions.
  • Review and oversee addendums, bid tabulations and contractor’s bid proposal.
  • Review and oversee shop drawing reviews and respond to requests for information with engineering supplemental information, including resolution of construction issues or conflicts.
  • Contribute to the project manager and/or senior project manager when required. Perform duties of a Senior Project Manager where required.
  • Work with project team to prepare addendums, bid tabulations and review contractor’s bid proposal in coordination with Senior Project Manager or Project Manager.
  • Communicate with Client, Senior Project Manager or Project Manager, Resident Project
  • Representative (RPR), Regulatory Officials, Funding Agencies and Contractor during construction. Approve Applications for Payment.
  • Prepare review comments on shop drawing submittals. Issue and respond to construction change documents. Review preparation of Record Drawings that are prepared by others.
  • Perform construction site visits to provide technical problem solving and support to the RPR and Project Manager/Senior Project Manager.
  • Oversee prep of meeting agendas and facilitate construction progress meetings.
  • Provide assistance to project team in resolution of construction issues.
  • Conduct QA/QC design reviews. Review QA/QC testing results during construction and advise on nonconforming results.
  • Review Operation and Maintenance manuals that are prepared by others.
  • Travel required to clients ~1-2 hour radius or as needed.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in engineering
  • 5-10+ years in related engineering or technically focused role
  • Experience with BlueBeam, SewerCAD, WaterCAD, WaterGEMS, HydroCAD, BioWin or similar
  • Valid Professional Engineering license (ideally in NH/ME/MA).
  • Maintain valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Possess advanced oral and written communication skills at all internal and external levels.
  • Apply critical thinking and curiosity to changing technology and materials.
  • Knowledge of pertinent civil engineering principles, skills and aspects.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
