Construction Laborer -- $20-23 -- Weekly Pay

Job Description

This role involves engaging in significant physical labor, including jackhammering and digging holes. The position is within an internationally recognized organization conducting highway, roadside, and race track safety research. The focus is on designing, developing, testing, and evaluating roadside safety features such as guardrails, bridge rails, crash cushions, and more. The organization is renowned for developing the SAFER Barrier for high-speed race track applications and collaborates with major racing leagues to enhance race track safety features.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in construction, demolition, and setting up for component and full-scale testing of highway and roadside safety systems.
  • Work with earthwork, concrete, and highway safety hardware like guardrails and cables.
  • Collaborate under the general direction of research engineers and managers.
  • Participate in outdoor testing and construction year-round.
  • Utilize equipment such as bobcats, forklifts, dump trucks, backhoes, booms, compressors, and generators.
  • Assist in building barriers and barricades for crash testing.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to transport products across the job site.
  • Use basic hand tools and power tools for construction tasks.
  • Pay close attention to detail in all tasks.
  • Pick up materials, run errands, and assist in digging holes for posts.
  • Contribute to the construction of barricades and guardrails.
  • Engage in band saw operations, grinding, and steel fabrication with an understanding of angles.

Essential Skills

  • At least 6 months experience with hand tools such as wrenches, hammers, band saws, and grinders.
  • Ability to read blueprints and work instructions for at least 6 months.
  • Experience working in outdoor environments for at least 6 months.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 pounds consistently.
  • A year of experience in precision-required environments.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • At least 6 months of experience working with cars or an interest in cars.
  • One year of apprentice work in any trades.
  • An Associate's degree in any skilled trade, engineering, or related fields.
  • Experience constructing roadside safety structures for over a year.
  • 6 months of highway construction experience.
  • Proficiency in using construction plans and drawings for at least 6 months.
  • 6 months of experience operating heavy equipment like bobcats, forklifts, dump trucks, backhoes, booms, compressors, and generators.
  • 6 months of experience working in laboratory testing environments.
  • Experience in surveying, grading, and earthwork for at least 6 months.
  • General construction work experience with concrete, steel, and wood.
  • Skill in using construction-related hand and power tools.
  • A valid driver's license.

Work Environment

Work outdoors year-round on a 40-acre site that can feel significantly hotter due to asphalt conditions. Hours are from 7 AM to 4:30 PM, with teams of 2-3 people, totaling about 15-20 onsite depending on the season. Dress code includes steel-toed shoes, ear protection, and appropriate clothing layers.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
