Job Description

Join a pioneering team dedicated to advancing agriculture through cutting-edge scientific discovery. As a Lab Technician in the Crop Protection Discovery & Development group, you will play a crucial role in supporting our Microbial Repository Lab. Collaborate closely with technicians and scientists to ensure efficient day-to-day operations and contribute to the enrichment of agricultural practices.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the customer-facing contact for strain requisitions and pickups, ensuring customer needs are met and delivering strain requests as necessary.
  • Perform routine and non-routine laboratory tasks such as aseptic handling, streak plating, cleaning and organizing lab areas, manual liquid transfers, operating automated liquid handlers, and storing and retrieving samples from freezers and shakers.
  • Manage sample handling and freezer cleanouts, including data management in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Order laboratory supplies to support Microbial Repository operations.
  • Provide support to other laboratories when workload allows, gaining valuable cross-functional experience.
  • Collaborate with Microbial Repository staff, scientists, and technicians to understand customer needs and identify workflow improvements.
  • Operate independently to meet customer requirements, including running MALDI Biotyper identification of contaminants and building the IR Biotyper database.

Essential Skills

  • B.S. in Chemistry, Biology, or related field such as life sciences, agriculture, or plant science.
  • At least 6 months of experience working in a laboratory setting, either in industry or academia.
  • Proficiency in aseptic technique.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with automated liquid handlers is a plus.

Work Environment

The candidate will work a 1st shift schedule from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday. The work environment includes handling various laboratory equipment and materials, with a focus on precision and collaboration. Consultants will receive holiday pay as part of their compensation.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Indianapolis, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $26.00/hr.
