Job Title: Lab Technician – Process Operations

Job Description

As a Pilot Plant Technician – Process Operations, you will utilize standard operating procedures (SOPs) to perform well-defined activities, developing the technical skills required for routine tasks in a small-scale R&D facility. You will be responsible for understanding how your assigned tasks relate to other roles and must effectively exchange information during routine situations within your workgroup.

This role is responsible for following established procedures to resolve straightforward issues with limited opportunity to modify processes independently. Accountability for managing your assigned tasks and ensuring the accuracy of your work is essential. You will work under close to moderate supervision, with regular guidance provided by senior staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate within strict guidelines and a defined workspace to ensure the safe, efficient operation of assigned laboratory areas.
  • Operate and perform field checks on process equipment; monitor process conditions, equipment, and control systems as assigned.
  • Complete routine operations tasks as outlined in the Master Task List (e.g., field checks, equipment preparation, sample collection).
  • Develop basic troubleshooting abilities to address process deviations and problems.
  • Monitor, collect, and input plant operational metrics (e.g., process control, asset utilization, yields), identifying opportunities for process improvement.
  • Gain skills to execute basic equipment troubleshooting, minor repairs, improvements, and preventative maintenance on process equipment.
  • Seek guidance and on-the-job training from Senior Pilot Plant Technicians and Technologists.
  • Build a foundational understanding of Life Critical Standards, operational plant discipline, and the facility’s safety culture.
  • Complete all required training as outlined in the facility training plan.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma (or equivalent) and 3 years of laboratory or operations experience required (local requirements may vary).
  • Associate’s Degree in Process Technology, Chemistry, Biology, or a related technical field with relevant work experience preferred.

Work Schedule

  • 40 hours per week
  • Day shift only; standard 8-hour days with an approximate 7:30 AM start time
  • No night shifts required

Role Focus / Technical Environment

  • Entry-level, associate role with a focus on process technology and hands-on operations rather than purely analytical lab work
  • Operation of small, indoor reactor systems in a research and development environment
  • Support reactor process chemistry and on-site operations activities
  • Perform sampling and quality checks extending beyond basic GC-only analysis
  • Work within a small, controlled facility (not a full-scale plant)
