The Role

We are seeking a Labor & Employment Associate with 2+ years of experience to join our high-volume practice. This role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of litigation, regulatory compliance, and strategic counseling. You will join a team known for its cooperative approach, working alongside our Business & Tax, Governmental, and Workers’ Compensation groups to provide comprehensive legal solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Labor Law & Relations:

  • Assist in the negotiation, interpretation, and administration of collective bargaining agreements.
  • Represent management in grievance processing and labor arbitration.
  • Provide counsel on bargaining unit issues, union avoidance strategies, and union-related litigation in state and federal courts.

Employment Law & Compliance:

  • Litigation & Defense: Defend employers against claims of discrimination (EEOC/PHRC), unemployment compensation claims, OSHA filings, and wage and hour (FLSA) disputes.
  • Documentation: Draft and review employee handbooks, executive employment agreements, severance packages, and non-compete/confidentiality agreements.
  • Advisory: Counsel clients on sensitive personnel matters, including internal investigations into misconduct or sexual harassment, drug/alcohol testing implementation, and disciplinary actions.
  • Affirmative Action: Assist in the preparation and maintenance of Affirmative Action Plans.

Training & Management Education:

  • Conduct training sessions for management teams on sexual harassment prevention, performance evaluations, and proper hiring/firing procedures.

Qualifications

  • Education: Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Licensure: Active member of the Pennsylvania Bar (in good standing).
  • Experience: 2+ years of legal experience, preferably with a focus on labor and employment law or civil litigation.
  • Skills:
  • Strong advocacy and courtroom presence.
  • Exceptional writing skills for drafting handbooks, agreements, and legal briefs.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects for a diverse array of public and private sector clients.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for management training and client counseling.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Erie, PA Base Salary: $80,000 – $95,000 (commensurate with experience).
  • Pittsburgh, PA Base Salary: Erie base + 5% geographic differential.
