Position Title: Labor & Employment Attorney (Hybrid - Chicago, IL)
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Someone with background in labor relations & employment law
- Handling union and non-union environment
- Help with HR related matters for Department of Human Resources
- 7+ years of experience
- IL Law License strongly preferred
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Attorney will provide our higher education client with legal advice on various matters, with a primary emphasis on employment and labor relations law.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide labor law counsel on grievances, information requests, contract bargaining agreement inquiries, and bargaining demands.
- Advise on employee designation and pay-related matters.
- Advise on real estate and other facilities matters
- Provide advice on and handle internal investigations and administrative hearings (e.g., IDHR and EEOC).
- Advise regarding employee discipline, discharge, leave, and accommodation matters.
- Supervision of employment-related litigation handled by outside counsel.
- Counsel clients on business transactions.
- Negotiate and draft agreements.
- Advise on intellectual property, student affairs, privacy and other areas of law affecting higher education.
- Conduct legal research on statutes, regulations, and case law.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws.
- Perform other related duties and/or responsibilities, as assigned or required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Illinois Bar licensed and in good standing with the Bar.
- Minimum of seven years of experience practicing law.
- Prior employment law or labor law experience of at least three years.
- Prior higher education law experience is strongly preferred but not required.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Initiative, intellectual curiosity, and tenacity.
- Excellent research, writing, drafting, negotiation, and client counseling skills.
- Knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements.

Duration:
- Contract to hire? Potentially; 3-6 months contract period

Hours:
- Weekly: 40 hours
- Business hours: 9-5PM flexible based on department need
The pay range for this position is $60-80/hour depending on experience. Benefits available to contract/temporary professionals, include medical, vision, dental, and life and disability insurance.
