Job Title: Lab Technician
Job Description

The primary focus of this position is Research and Development, primarily working with PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), also known as 'Forever Chemicals'.

Responsibilities

  • Develop operating procedures and perform tests for various water and wastewater treatment operations, including jar tests for determining and optimizing chemical dosing, bench and pilot scale evaluations, and testing for ion exchange resins, carbon adsorption, and filtration systems.
  • Collect data by measuring and recording operating conditions such as pumping rates, pH, Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP), temperature, and pressure.
  • Operate and perform light maintenance on small-scale equipment such as pumps, heaters, and mixers.
  • Prepare samples for testing and reagents for in-house lab analyses.
  • Perform various laboratory tests, including Dissolved Oxygen (DO), Color, Temperature, ORP, Alkalinity, Hardness, Total Suspended Solids, Total Dissolved Solids, Chemical Oxygen Demand, Total Organic Carbon, Turbidity, and Phosphorus/Phosphate.
  • Pull samples for third-party laboratory analysis.
  • Maintain reagents and lab inventory, calibration records for lab equipment, and SDS documentation for lab chemicals and reagents.
  • Manage and communicate data while maintaining the cleanliness of lab equipment and operating areas.
Essential Skills
  • Proficiency in laboratory, chemistry, and wet chemistry techniques.
  • Experience with R&D and PFAS is a plus.
  • Ability to work precisely in solution making, with measuring devices, data handling, and instrument operation.
  • Proficiency with standard laboratory instruments such as pH meters, TSS probes, HACH spectrophotometers, analytical balances, and volumetric glassware.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, or a related field.
  • Experience with titration, reverse osmosis, quality control, and quality assurance.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Strong communication skills for team collaboration and data sharing.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
Work Environment

The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 7am-4pm, with potential for flexibility based on testing needs. The facility, located in rural Indiana, PA, was originally built in the 1970s as an environmental lab and has been renovated with modern equipment. The lab is very clean and up-to-date, and the office space operates out of new pop-up trailers for computer work. The site is focused on research and offers substantial opportunities for gaining experience.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Creekside, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.
