About the Role

We are looking for a highly skilled and organized Lab Manager to lead our Mechatronics Lab. This role is pivotal in maintaining the experimental environment where the team performs experiments, fault-tests, repair and integrates hardware. You will be the primary steward of the facility, ensuring that 3D printers, tools, and electronic equipment are operational and that the inventory supports rapid-response debugging. The ideal candidate blends deep technical mechatronics knowledge with exceptional laboratory management skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) and manage the high-end machines as 3D printers.
  • Develop and execute a rigorous maintenance schedule for all lab assets, ensuring zero downtime for critical experimentation tools.
  • Maintain and calibrate precision electronics tools, including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and soldering stations used for debugging PCBs and sensor arrays.
  • Hardware Debugging: Assist the engineering team in diagnosing mechanical and electrical failures observed during humanoid operations.
  • Rapidly produce replacement parts or test fixtures using lab machinery to facilitate immediate hardware "fixes" or experimental modifications.
  • Manage the procurement and stock levels of consumables (filaments, resins, drill bits), electronic components (microcontrollers, actuators), and specialized spare parts.
  • Implement 5S or similar workplace organization methodologies to ensure the lab remains a safe, efficient, and professional environment for the engineering team.
  • Ensure all lab activities comply with environmental safety standards, particularly regarding battery handling (LiPo/Li-ion) and chemical waste.
  • Coordinate with external vendors for equipment servicing, tool procurement, and specialized material sourcing.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience in a technical lab or makerspace environment, specifically supporting robotics or complex electromechanical systems.
  • Advanced experience with operation, 3D printing workflows, and manual shop tools.
  • Expertise in PCB debugging, soldering (SMD), and utilizing diagnostic equipment.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, inventory systems, and multi-disciplinary schedules.
