Title: Lab & Field Hardware Technician

Location: Oakland, CA- Onsite


Summary

Performs hands-on network and storage hardware work, basic lab host support, and shipping/inventory tasks. Follows runbooks and asks for help on complex or one-off issues. Does not own architecture or tool design.


Level: Mid–junior (3–5 years relevant experience, or strong hands-on background with close supervision on unusual work)


Responsibilities

  • Network / appliances: NIC moves, swaps, bypasses, and chassis relocations; Tetra/specialty NIC installs; switch wiring; in-path and WAN–LAN connectivity fixes.
  • Storage: Disk and storage-unit replacements; drive swaps and field replacements (non-RAID flows as directed); spare parts.
  • Logistics: Shipping, RMAs, peripherals; moving gear; PO/shipment tracking and inbound logistics.
  • Lab: Cabling, patching, power-on, wake/sleep; facility/lab access coordination.
  • Lab IT: ESX, Hyper-V / Windows Server hosts and LAN/WAN pairs (operate and troubleshoot with guidance).
  • Other: General troubleshooting; remote syslog/logging server replacement as runbooked; hardware inventory and retired-gear tracing; use of internal analytics/DB/service endpoints and credentials per process; password sync and locked lab accounts for non-LDAP flows as trained.

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years (or equivalent) with server/appliance hardware, cabling, and safe rack/transport work.
  • Basic hardware and network troubleshooting skills
  • Able to follow written steps, label work, and record serials/asset data.
  • Reliable for local transport when needed; clear written handoffs for shipments and RMAs.
  • Nice to have: exposure to containers, CI/CD and storage networks.
