Job Description

This role focuses on installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems in commercial and industrial construction environments. The electrician reads and interprets blueprints, works with multiple sizes and types of conduit, and ensures all work complies with the National Electrical Code and other applicable regulations. The position requires strong troubleshooting skills, safe use of tools and testing equipment, and familiarity with three-phase power systems and dedicated circuits for specialized equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and construction drawings to plan and execute installations accurately.
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, fixtures, and related systems in commercial and industrial settings.
  • Work with multiple sizes and types of conduit, including rigid and EMT, to run and protect electrical wiring.
  • Perform conduit bending, cable pulling, and wire pulling to complete electrical installations according to project specifications.
  • Install and service lighting systems and low-voltage systems as required by the project scope.
  • Ensure all electrical work complies with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and other relevant regulations and standards.
  • Use electrical testing devices to test circuits and systems, verify proper operation, and ensure safety and compatibility.
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues by diagnosing faults, identifying root causes, and performing effective repairs.
  • Utilize hand and power tools, measuring devices, and testing equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Work with three-phase power systems and dedicated circuits for specialized commercial and industrial equipment.
  • Collaborate with construction teams to coordinate electrical work with other trades on commercial and industrial construction sites.
  • For foreman-level roles, provide on-site leadership, coordinate tasks, and support the training and guidance of crew members.
  • Follow all safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment while working on active job sites.
  • Complete assigned tasks within project timelines, including occasional overtime when required to meet deadlines.

Essential Skills

  • At least 3 years of electrical experience as a journeyman electrician.
  • Proven experience in commercial and industrial electrical work.
  • Ability to read and comprehend electrical blueprints and schematics.
  • Proficiency in installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures in commercial environments.
  • Ability to work with multiple sizes of conduit, including running rigid and EMT conduit.
  • Strong skills in conduit bending, pulling wire, and running conduit.
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow the National Electrical Code (NEC) and other relevant regulations.
  • Proficiency in circuit testing and troubleshooting using appropriate testing devices.
  • Experience using hand and power tools, measuring devices, and electrical testing equipment.
  • Familiarity with three-phase power systems and dedicated circuits for specialized equipment.
  • Capability to perform low-voltage work and lighting installation and repair.
  • For foreman-level candidates, demonstrated leadership experience overseeing electrical crews or projects.

  • Experience in construction environments, particularly commercial and industrial construction sites.
  • Experience working from detailed schematics and technical drawings.
  • Comfort working with a variety of cables and electrical wiring types.
  • Ability to coordinate with other trades and adapt to changing job site priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to performing code-compliant work.
  • Reliable work habits and the ability to manage time effectively on multiple tasks.

Work Environment

Work takes place primarily on commercial and industrial construction sites in the Lynchburg area. The schedule typically runs Monday through Friday, with some overtime required based on project needs. The role involves working around active construction activities, using a variety of electrical tools, measuring devices, and testing equipment. Team members wear appropriate work clothing and personal protective equipment while on site to ensure safety. For projects requiring travel, a daily per diem is provided when working out of town.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Altavista, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr.
