Job Title: Inventory Specialist
Job Description
The Inventory Specialist works in the kitting area of a warehouse, owning the accuracy of inventory records and ensuring that physical stock matches system data. This role is highly computer-focused, combining analytical work with hands-on material handling and equipment operation in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Responsibilities
- Work primarily at a computer (approximately 70% of the time) using web-based and database inventory systems, Microsoft Office applications, Outlook, SAP, and order tracking tools to manage and track inventory.
- Use internal inventory and materials management systems to print pick lists and audit reports, then locate and count products throughout the facility to verify and reconcile physical inventory with system records.
- Own the accuracy of inventory counts and records by performing regular physical counts, cycle counts, and spot checks to ensure that parts and quantities match what is shown in the systems.
- Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies by locating missing parts, identifying root causes of inaccuracies, and updating systems to reflect correct information.
- Operate stand-up forklifts, man-up forklifts, and electric carts to move materials safely within the warehouse, including working at heights while secured in a harness to pick parts near the ceiling.
- Use RF scanners and other inventory control tools to record movements, confirm picks, and maintain real-time inventory accuracy.
- Perform data entry with a high degree of accuracy in various inventory tracking, ERP, and order management systems.
- Support shipping, receiving, sorting, and general inventory control activities as needed to maintain efficient material flow.
- Apply strong attention to detail when counting, labeling, and locating products to prevent errors and maintain high inventory accuracy.
- Communicate effectively with team members and other departments to resolve inventory issues and support continuous improvement of inventory processes.
- Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment and material handling equipment, to maintain a safe work environment.
- Perform physical tasks such as bending, twisting, lifting, walking, and standing for extended periods while locating and counting inventory throughout the building.
- Participate in and successfully complete structured training, including classroom instruction, written exams, and hands-on equipment and systems testing.
Essential Skills
- Ability to navigate and work confidently in multiple computer systems with a high level of aptitude and comfort in a technology-driven environment.
- Proven experience in inventory tracking, inventory control, and inventory data entry in a warehouse and/or manufacturing setting.
- At least 2 years of work experience in a warehouse or manufacturing facility.
- Previous experience operating forklifts, including comfort with stand-up and man-up forklifts and electric carts in a warehouse environment.
- Comfort working at heights while in a harness and operating material handling equipment close to the ceiling to pick parts.
- Experience using Microsoft Office applications, including spreadsheets, as well as Outlook or similar email and productivity tools.
- Ability to perform accurate and efficient computer data entry in web-based and database tracking systems, ERP systems, and order tracking platforms.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly in counting, verifying, and recording inventory data, supported by references that demonstrate accuracy and reliability.
- Consistent, strong attendance and reliability, including the ability to complete required training without absences in the first 30 days.
- Physical ability to bend, twist, lift, walk, and stand as needed to count and locate products throughout a large warehouse.
- Desire to work in a role focused on solving inventory issues, investigating discrepancies, and correcting errors to maintain accurate records.
- Comfort using RF scanners and related inventory control technology in a warehouse setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Decatur, IL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr.
