Intake Assistant Manager Job DescriptionWorking under the Executive Director, the Intake Assistant Manager plays a key role in our shelter. Managing our intake department, working to intake adoptable animals into our program from other shelters, rescues, and owners looking to rehome their pets; as well as participating in training and enrichment of our shelter dogs and cats, handling adoptions, animal care, and public education and awareness. Our ideal candidate will be comfortable working with cats and dogs of all breeds and sizes and temperaments, be an efficient and effective communicator, have a team-oriented attitude, and a passion for helping animals.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESIt will be the responsibility of the Intake Assistant Manager to oversee our intake program and our intake coordinators and assistants, perform behavioral and medical evaluations on cats and dogs coming into Butte Humane Societys adoption program and intake those who would be a good fit for our program following the policies and protocols set forth by Butte Humane Society. The Intake Assistant Manager will work with the Executive Director to grow our intake program, build and maintain relationships with other shelters and rescues, and actively participate in helping Butte Humane Society meet and exceed our goals. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESResponsible for overseeing all intake operations and intake staff activities, their training, and adherence to policies and proceduresResponsible for all Intake of animals into Butte Humane Societys shelter programWorks with the Executive Director to maintain policies and procedures that apply directly to the programs and organization and ensure successful implementationCommit to a high standard of safety and follow all established safety procedures and protocols. Take immediate action to address any safety concerns that could put a staff member, volunteer, customer, animal, or the organization at risk.Maintain medical database and intake systemsKeep inventory of intake suppliesPrepare all necessary supplies, paperwork, etc. to intake animalsManage animal record keeping such as vaccine dates, health, behavior, etc.Coordinate and lead intake trainingCultivate positive adopter and staff relations through professional, courteous, and educational interactionsPerform behavioral evaluations on cats and dogs coming into our adoption program.Perform initial medical evaluation and blood draws for medical testing and report abnormal findings for review.Administer vaccines, medication, and preventives to shelter animals.Participate in the creation of behavior modification/management plans for pets as needed.Listen to customers and provide effective responses and remedies to their questions and needs in person and over the phone.Counsel potential adopters on adoption process as well as all BHS policies and procedures, educate customers of topics related to adopting shelter animals, evaluate adopter surveys against animal behavior and personality tests using established criteria to create a long lasting human/animal match.Commit to a high standard of safety and follow all established safety procedures and protocols. Take immediate action to address any safety concerns that could put a staff member, volunteer, customer, animal, or the organization at risk.Solicit donations from customers and accept in-kind donations as needed.Basic clerical and administrative tasks such as cash handling, data entry, filing , opening and closing procedures, and keeping a clean and organized work station.Socialize and exercise animals, dispense and administer vaccines and preventativesParticipate in all aspects of shelter animal care including kennel cleaning, dish washing, feeding, sanitation, and cross contamination prevention.Cultivate positive client, volunteer, and coworker relations through professional, courteous, and educational interactions.Work to meet and exceed the goals of the department.Responsible for knowing when animals are available as well as knowing their personalities and temperament.Perform additional tasks given.
