Allen University Instructor/ Assistant Professor of History/African American Studies Location: On Campus Applications Due: Open Until Filled Type: Full-Time Effective Date: Fall 2026 Disciplines Concentrations: History, African American Studies As Allen University continues to evolve into the best HBCU in South Carolina, we are seeking dedicated faculty to join us in pursuit of All That Can Be Imagined. This position is responsible for teaching classes as assigned by the Chair and/or Division Dean. Must evaluate and report student performances and progress in courses in accordance with university policies and procedures. Must meet minimum faculty standards for hire and adhere to university policies and procedures. The instructor will promote, develop, and deliver quality education programs with the intent to retain students to graduation and access student learning outcomes each term. Minimum Qualification: Master’s in history, African American Studies or related discipline. 3 years’ experience teaching at college/university level. Online teaching experience/training and/or certification and a willingness to teach in accelerated course lengths. Knowledge of curriculum design that supports student pathway progression and success. Ability to mentor student academic organizations and provide student program of study advisement. Preferred Qualifications: PhD/Doctorate in one of the concentrations listed, or related disciplines. Knowledge of micro-credentialing, workforce and structured student academic pathways. Someone with the capacity for and a background in leadership is desired Physical Demands: Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, use hands to operate computer keyboard, telephone, and other basic office equipment, and ability to work with diverse populations. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is expected to work with minimal supervision, high degree of problem-solving, organizational skills with the teaching and learning process, and high level of inter-personal skills is preferred. Hiring process includes ability to pass a background check. Typical Working Conditions: Faculty are expected to facilitate instruction utilizing the institution’s LMS. Faculty must maintain a classroom environment, which is conducive to student learning.
