Dean of the Graduate School Description - The Dean of the Graduate School is the university administrator responsible for the oversight, strategic planning, and development of all graduate-level academic programs. This role includes oversight of policies and procedures for graduate admissions, identifying and assisting in recruitment of faculty with primarily graduate roles, fostering the development of new programs, faculty and student development, fundraising, and ensuring the quality and alignment of graduate education with the institution's overall mission. The dean serves as a key liaison between graduate departments and the broader university administration and reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The incumbent will serve on the President’s Expanded Cabinet. Key Responsibilities – Are set out below in categories not considered exhaustive: • Strategic Leadership: Develop short and long-range plans for graduate programs, creating a vision for their growth and expansion in alignment with the university mission, vision and strategic plan. • Oversight of Operations: Coordinate and collaborate with university staff and faculty for program development, and overall operations of the graduate programs. • Policy and Governance: Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop and implement policies and procedures for graduate education. • Financial Management and Fundraising: Administer the budget for graduate programs and engage in advancement activities to secure external funding. • Student and Faculty Support: Oversee professional development for graduate students and faculty, including fellowship applications and support for graduate assistants. • Assessment and Effectiveness: Lead assessment activities to measure performance and ensure the quality of graduate programs. • Liaison and Collaboration: Act as a bridge between academic departments, graduate students, faculty, staff and administration. Qualifications – The earned or warranted rank of Associate Professor. A minimum of three years of administrative and supervisory roles in higher education. Faculty instruction in a setting that would portent a goodness-of-fit at this institution. A combination of scholarship-research-performance, teaching, and personal attributes that would inform and facilitate faculty followership. Skills /Experiences/Capabilities: - The incumbent must have an earned doctorate and have had direct experiences in accreditation related activities. Other skills and capabilities include: • Ability to perform the physical, emotional, psychological, and intellectual tasks explicitly and implicitly required to perform the duties of the position. • Evidence of the ability to work successfully with diverse colleagues, students, and publics. • Capacity to formulate, decipher, and communicate complex ideas in oral and written forms. • Experience using integrated software systems and normative desktop apps.
