Position Summary
The Fire Inspections Manager provides leadership and oversight of the Inspections Department, ensuring operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and financial performance. This role requires expertise in NFPA codes, Joint Commission (TJC) Environment of Care (EC) and Life Safety (LS) standards, and fire life safety inspections, particularly within healthcare environments.
The Manager oversees field technicians, service coordinators, and inspection personnel while ensuring accurate documentation, audit readiness, and customer satisfaction. This position is in-office with minimal travel (<10%).
Key Responsibilities
Department & Operations Oversight
- Manage daily operations, compliance, and financial performance for the Inspections Department
- Conduct spot checks, ride-alongs, and ongoing field training for technicians
- Review and optimize technician routes for efficiency
- Conduct monthly shop meetings and Safety Toolbox Talks
- Oversee coordination and execution of inspection jobs, with emphasis on healthcare and regulated accounts
Joint Commission & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure inspections, testing, and maintenance meet NFPA and Joint Commission standards
- Maintain complete, accurate, and audit-ready documentation
- Support customers during Joint Commission surveys, mock surveys, and life safety reviews
- Review deficiency reports for clarity, code references, and timely corrective action plans
- Monitor compliance trends and implement corrective strategies
- Partner with healthcare facility leadership to support Environment of Care and Life Safety initiatives
- Train field personnel on Joint Commission documentation, deficiency identification, and customer communication
Financial & Project Oversight
- Ensure proper staffing levels in coordination with HR and bid projections
- Monitor work order completion, materials, tools, and fleet readiness
- Attend and monitor project meetings as required
- Ensure accurate communication between Sales and Operations regarding schedules and compliance
Other Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of NFPA codes and regulatory compliance standards
- Familiarity with Joint Commission, CMS, and Life Safety requirements
- Ability to communicate effectively in English with employees and customers
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; familiarity with business intelligence systems, Sage 300 CRE, Service Trade, or similar software
- Leadership and supervisory capabilities
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business or equivalent experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in the Fire Life Safety Industry
- Supervisory experience
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
Work Environment
- In-office role with travel <10% to job sites
- Work performed indoors and outdoors, exposed to various elements
- Physical requirements include bending, kneeling, walking, standing, climbing stairs, twisting, reaching above and below shoulders, and lifting up to 20 lbs
