About the Administrative Office of the District Courts:

The Administrative Office of the District Courts serves as the centralized service organization responsible for the administrative, operational, financial, and technology infrastructure supporting the Harris County District Courts. The District Courts include seventy-two elected District Court Judges and approximately fifteen appointed or associate judges serving across the Civil, Criminal, Family, and Juvenile divisions. The office supports a large and complex judicial environment consisting of more than eighty active courtrooms across multiple courthouse facilities. Each court operates with courtroom personnel including court coordinators, court reporters, and in many instances law clerks. The Administrative Office provides the operational framework necessary for these courts to function efficiently and reliably. Court operations rely on a substantial technology infrastructure that supports more than seven hundred computer workstations, more than two hundred network printers, and integrated courtroom technology systems. Courtrooms are equipped with audio and video presentation systems, video conferencing capability, and live streaming technology used to support in-person, hybrid, and remote court proceedings.


Position Overview:

Within this environment, the Information Technology Technician provides technical support for courtroom technology, end-user systems, and related infrastructure supporting daily court operations. The position is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and supporting a wide range of hardware and software systems used by judges, court staff, and administrative personnel. The role requires the ability to respond to technical issues in real time, including during active court proceedings, and to ensure courtroom technology systems remain operational and reliable.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • End User Technical Support:
    • Provide help desk support to judges, court staff, and administrative personnel through onsite, remote, and telephone support.
    • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and user-related technical issues.
  • Courtroom Technology Support:
    • Support and maintain courtroom audio and video systems, including presentation equipment, video conferencing systems, and livestreaming technology.
    • Respond to issues during court proceedings and ensure systems remain operational.
  • Hardware and Software Installation and Maintenance:
    • Install, configure, and maintain computers, printers, scanners, and other technology equipment.
    • Perform updates, repairs, and replacements as needed.
  • Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution:
    • Diagnose technical problems across multiple systems and coordinate solutions.
    • Work with internal IT staff and vendors when escalation is required.
  • User Support and Training:
    • Provide basic training and guidance to users on software applications and technology systems used within the courts.

Education and Experience:

  • Associate degree from an accredited college or university

OR

  • Minimum of four (4) to six (6) years of experience in technical support, IT support, or a related role.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of computer hardware, software, and basic networking concepts.
  • Knowledge of audio and video technology systems used in courtroom environments.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues across a range of systems and devices.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to issues during active court proceedings.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple support requests and prioritize effectively.
  • Basic knowledge of Active Directory, user account management, and system access preferred.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications and common business software.

  • Associate degree in information technology or a related field preferred.

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:

  • Regular Full-Time
  • Hours will be discussed during departmental interview.
    • Days and hours may vary.
    • Additional hours may be required to support court proceedings, system updates, or emergency operations
Salary:
  • Depends on Qualifications
  • Based on 26 Pay Periods
