The City of Claremont is seeking an Information Technology Technician to serve as the first line of support for City staff. This is a hands-on, help desk-focused role supporting day-to-day technology needs across departments while also assisting with system upgrades and IT projects.

In a smaller agency environment, you’ll gain exposure to a wide range of systems, tools, and initiatives. Our IT Division is actively modernizing infrastructure and implementing new solutions, this role offers the opportunity to be part of that work while building a strong, well-rounded IT foundation.

Under the direction of the Information Technology Officer, the Information Technology Technician will perform technical support of City technology systems; analyze and resolve user support requests, provide user training and advanced application support; install, test, monitor, upgrade, troubleshoot, and repair computer systems, networks, and peripherals; assist with the configuration and maintenance of City wireless infrastructure, phone systems, cameras, and audio-visual systems. They will also perform routine database administration, assist with setting up and maintain database environments, and assist with developing data warehouses and reporting.

Some exciting projects the Information Technology Division is working on includes collaborating on the hardening of our network infrastructure; providing proven cyber resilience through network policies; deployment of a new ERP system; and coordinating and assisting in a new CADRMS implementation.

Work hours are generally Monday through Thursday (38-hour work week) between 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Some evening/weekend meetings or special events may be required.
We are looking for someone who:
  • Has strong customer service and problem-solving skills
  • Can comfortable with hands-on technical work (including equipment setup and physical tasks)
  • Is able to communicate effectively with non-technical users
  • Is adaptable, reliable, and eager to learn across multiple IT areas

Experience: Two years of progressively responsible experience involving information technology technician support with some network, systems, or database administrations, preferably in public safety or a municipal enterprise-level environment.

Education:
Associate degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in information systems, information technology, computer science, and/or related field.

OR Any combination of progressively responsible experience as an Information Technology Technician, IT Specialist, and IT Analyst at an enterprise system level or in a public safety or municipal environment with relevant certifications to perform the abovementioned duties.

Licenses: Possession of a valid California State Class C driver's license.

Highly Desirable:
Possession of or ability to obtain certification as a full-access California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (CLETS) user.
