Are you passionate about IT security? LACOE is seeking individuals with experience monitoring and responding to IT security programs and systems.

The Information Systems Security Specialist monitors and assesses information systems to mitigate vulnerabilities and implement information technology security solutions and programs by utilizing security tools and techniques.

The Well Qualified Candidate Will Possess the Following

Knowledge:
  • Broad information security issues, requirements, and trends, including compliance requirements related to Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP) and e-Discovery
  • Information security laws and regulations
  • Risk assessment methods and techniques
  • Security software, programs, and tools
  • Basic server and network technologies
  • Application architecture and design, development environments, database design and normalization, network security and infrastructure
  • Authentication, authorization, and encryption technologies
  • Forensic techniques for investigating incidents
  • Auditing standards and techniques

Required Education and ExperienceEducation:Graduation from high school or equivalent and completion of 12 semester units or 18 quarter units in computer-related courses from a recognized college, vocational or trade school, or equivalent specialized training program.

Experience:Two years of experience implementing and monitoring information technology security solutions and programs.

Equivalency Provision:A Security+, CompTIA A+, or Google Cybersecurity Professional certification may substitute for the 12 semester units or 18 quarter units in computer related coursework.

Additional Requirements:A valid California driver's license and the availability of private transportation or the ability to provide transportation between job sites is required. Professional certification in one of the following is preferred: Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP), Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), EC-Council Certified Security Analyst (ECSA), Cybersecurity Analyst (CySA+), GIAC Security Essentials Certification (SEC), or equivalent.

Selection ProcessCandidates who meet the minimum requirements above will be invited to participate in an examination that may consist of a Performance Exam and a Structured Interview.

Candidates who pass all exam parts are ranked according to overall exam score and placed on an eligibility (hiring) list. Vacant positions are filled from the top three ranks.
