About the City

Woodinville, Washington is a premier tourist destination with a population of about 14,000, though the City will likely grow rapidly over the next five years or so. This growth is resulting in lots of exciting projects and programs. Located about 20 miles northeast of Seattle, Woodinville offers the benefits of a bustling urban area against the backdrop of the picturesque Sammamish River Valley. Woodinville is known for its tourism industries with over 130 wineries, breweries, and distilleries and numerous opportunities for outdoor activities.

The City of Woodinville is offering an internship position in the Information Services Division starting June/July 2026. The Information Services Division is responsible for management of the Information Technology (IT) and Geographic Information System (GIS) operations as well as its alignment with the City’s day-to-day business operations and initiatives. The IT Intern will have the opportunity to gain experience in each of these areas primarily through daily hands-on tasks and project-based activities.

The IS Intern will focus on, but not be limited to, working along the side with IS team by leveraging industry IT trends, cybersecurity, assets onboarding & offboarding, and overall IT best practices to support City staff. Thus, the IT Intern will conduct IS related research, troubleshoot and resolve software, hardware, cloud computing, security, and connectivity problems, peripherals and end point devices, network devices, mobile devices, as well as Help Desk support in the City’s facilities.

The candidate’s input on specific areas of interest will also be taken into consideration in determining the final scope of work and responsibilities. The City’s goal is to offer the IS Intern a positive, informative, well-rounded, and fun learning experience in a real-world setting that prepares the candidate for a future in the IT government profession.

The IS Division Intern and the internship program will be supervised by the IS Manager. Project-specific tasks may be supervised by the project or function lead or by other IS staff. The Intern is expected to take an active role in the development and implementation of their work, identify areas of interest for additional learning opportunities, and make meaningful contributions to the City and the IT operations. An Intern is expected to collaborate and/or make recommendations as applicable to a given task, project support or help desks tickets. Assigned duties are to be performed while adhering to the City’s operational policies, safety rules, and procedures. The following are essential functions:

As the IS Internyou will:

  • Work with the Information Services (IS) Team to troubleshoot hardware and software problems and identify, categorize, and resolve hardware and software application problems.
  • Work with IS Team to coordinate preventative maintenance and communicate with 3rd party vendor services as necessary.
  • Provide documentation, status reports, and communicate progress of IT Requests.
  • Onboard & Offboard employees, hardware, software, peripherals, end-point devices, mobile devices, etc.
  • Assistwith asset account setup, access polices setup, security setup, Active Directory (AD) management, mobile device management (MDM), Microsoft In-Tune management, etc.
  • Assistswith asset maintenance, data wipe, decommission.
  • Document system changes, assets inventory and related procedures.
  • Evaluate current industry trends, services, tools, cybersecurity, best practices and propose solutions (as applicable) to enhance the City’s IS-IT operations and its stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED; AND
  • Pursuing undergraduate degree in Information Technology or closely related field; OR
  • In place of the above requirements, the incumbent may possess any combination of relevant education and experience which would demonstrate the individual’s knowledge, skill, and ability to proficiently perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above.

Physical Requirements Office workers

Work is primarily performed in an indoor setting. While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent must frequently sit and talk or hear; occasionally stand, walk, grip of feel with hands, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. The nature of the work has frequent interruptions. Requires strong public communication skills. May occasionally be required to work beyond normal working hours, weekends, and holidays. The ability to operate a personal computer is required. This position may also require substantial phone use and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of audiences.


Compensation, Classification and Labor Representation

The full salary range for this position is step # 1 $25.96 per hour to step # 2 $27.00 per hour. The appointment will typically be made at step # 1 $25.96 per hour.

This position is eligible for overtime and is non-represented. It is classified as an Intern. Classification descriptions are typically written broadly and may not include all specific duties and responsibilities of the position.
