This role requires a skilled technician proficiency in multiple trades, primarily focusing on utility plant operations with additional expertise in high-pressure steam systems, commercial HVAC, plumbing, and electrical work. It is crucial for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of facility utilities and equipment. Work includes conducting scheduled preventive maintenance on all plant equipment; testing water for proper chemical levels; operating electric generating equipment for electricity production or emergency standby; and recommending changes to improve boiler or chiller plant efficiency. General supervision is received from the Assistant Director of Facilities and Operations who reviews work for compliance with instructions, procedures, and safe operations.

This position will encounter diverse physical demands integral to maintaining the campus's essential utility systems. The position will work at heights, in confined spaces, and occasionally in inclement weather conditions. The role may involve moderate to heavy physical exertion, including bending, kneeling, and climbing, as well as prolonged periods of standing or walking. This position may be designated as "Essential" and/or the employee may be required to provide a means to be contacted during non-duty hours for emergencies. In the event of a campus emergency, special event, closure to maintain campus safety or building operations, this position may be required to work outside of regularly scheduled hours.
