Position: Maintenance Technician

Location: Bloomington, IN

Salary: $65,000 – $75,000


Job Summary:


We are seeking a Controls Specialist / Maintenance Technician to provide localized technical support on pharmaceutical manufacturing equipment, including freeze dryers and capital machinery. This role involves direct collaboration with engineering teams both domestically and internationally, depending on the machine type. Initial training may be conducted at company headquarters overseas to ensure technical alignment and product familiarity.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Provide on-site support for capital equipment and coordinate outsourced repairs and vendor services.
  • Serve as a technical interface with vendors and customer service teams.
  • Manage project materials, structures, and parts using SAP / CRM systems.
  • Support development and delivery of customer training and maintenance programs.
  • Conduct line audits and assist in minor rebuild or refurbishment activities.
  • Support project upgrades, logistics coordination, and warranty processing.
  • Deliver technical support for both European and U.S.-made equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) standards.


Additional Responsibilities:


  • Create control system documentation and FDA validation materials in accordance with GAMP guidelines.
  • Support field engineers, test technicians, and end users throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Troubleshoot multiple production lines simultaneously.


Skills and Experience:


  • Associate degree with 3–5 years of experience, or 8+ years in a manufacturing environment supporting pharmaceutical packaging or similar capital equipment.
  • Proficiency with PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage priorities independently and within a team.
  • Solid technical communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Familiarity with electrical/software aspects of machine design.
  • Willingness to travel 25–30% domestically and internationally.
  • Openness to overseas training periods.


Preferred Qualifications / What Makes You a Great Fit:


  • Knowledge of PID control loops, servo controls, and variable frequency drives.
  • Previous experience with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, and iFix.
  • Experience with PLC ladder logic, iFix, Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), SyTech XLReporter, and SCADA programming.
  • Understanding of communication protocols such as TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP, and Profibus.
  • Experience with relational databases such as MS SQL and MS Access.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and Microsoft Windows 7/Server operating systems.
  • Exposure to machine systems including hydraulics, pneumatics, motor controls, and aseptic production.
  • Background in the pharmaceutical industry is a plus.
