Job Title: HVAC Service Technician

Job Description

This role focuses on providing expert HVAC service and maintenance in a commercial and industrial manufacturing environment, with a strong emphasis on climate control for critical chemical manufacturing operations. You will work primarily on large rooftop units, chillers, and related temperature and humidity control equipment, ensuring reliable performance and minimal downtime for a high-priority facility.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to the main office location as required for onboarding, training, and coordination, then transition to working primarily at a key client facility once fully trained.
  • Perform diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repair of compressors, chillers, and large rooftop HVAC units (10 tons or larger) in a commercial and industrial setting.
  • Respond to service calls and assess equipment issues, identifying root causes and implementing effective mechanical and refrigeration solutions.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance on HVAC systems and related equipment, following prioritized work orders and maintenance schedules.
  • Work with production-related equipment including humidifiers, dehumidifiers, temperature control units, and portable chillers to maintain precise environmental conditions.
  • Support continuous climate control for a chemical manufacturing site, ensuring systems operate reliably to meet strict temperature and humidity requirements.
  • Collaborate with onsite HVAC technicians and a supervisor to coordinate daily tasks, share technical insights, and support overall site performance.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with customers while on site, explaining findings, recommended repairs, and maintenance needs.
  • Escalate major issues such as full unit replacements or full building system automations to the project manager or sales manager for further evaluation and decision-making.
  • Use appropriate hand tools and field service practices to complete repairs, installations, and maintenance safely and efficiently.
  • Document work performed on service calls and preventative maintenance tasks accurately and in a timely manner.

Essential Skills

  • 3+ years of HVAC refrigeration experience through apprenticeship or equivalent hands-on field experience.
  • Proven experience working in commercial or industrial environments; strictly non-residential HVAC experience
  • Strong ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair compressors, chillers, and large rooftop units (10 tons or larger).
  • Experience handling service calls and field service work in customer-facing situations.
  • Demonstrated skill in preventative and preventive maintenance on HVAC and refrigeration systems.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to use hand tools and related service equipment effectively.
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly to customers and team members.
  • Professionalism in appearance and speaking, representing the company well at customer sites.
  • Customer-facing service experience, with a focus on responsiveness and reliability.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Massachusetts Refrigeration License is a significant plus and required for the highest pay tier.
  • Completion of an HVAC apprenticeship program or equivalent structured training is highly valued.
  • Experience working with humidifiers, dehumidifiers, temperature control units, and portable chillers.
  • Experience supporting climate-controlled manufacturing environments, especially chemical or similar process-driven facilities.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a high-demand service environment.
  • Comfort working within a team of onsite technicians and under the guidance of a supervisor or project manager.

Work Environment

You will work Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., primarily in commercial and industrial settings, including a high-priority manufacturing facility that requires continuous climate control for chemical production. The role involves regular work on large rooftop units, chillers, and production-related environmental equipment at industrial and manufacturing sites. You will be part of an onsite team that includes three technicians and a supervisor, with access to project management support for major system decisions. The work is field-based, hands-on, and mechanically focused, using standard hand tools and HVAC service equipment in active production facilities.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Marlborough, MA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $55.00/hr.
