Histotechnician (Lab Technician III) – Contract

About the Role
We’re seeking an experienced Histotechnician to support a fast-paced Research & Development team within the pharmaceutical/biotech industry. This role is highly hands-on, combining day-to-day lab operations with project-driven histopathology work.
You’ll play a key role in supporting discovery and translational research through high-quality tissue processing, staining, and assay execution.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Perform routine histology tasks: tissue processing, embedding, microtome sectioning, staining, slide prep, and coverslipping
- Develop and execute histopathology assays including H&E, special stains, IHC, and ISH
- Design and run multiplex tissue-based assays (IHC/IF) ensuring reproducibility and data quality
- Support lab operations: sample intake, tracking, reagent prep, inventory, and equipment maintenance
- Conduct quality control (QC) on tissue sections, stains, and imaging outputs
- Operate and maintain lab instruments (automated stainers, microtomes, slide scanners)
- Maintain detailed documentation, SOPs, and experimental records
- Collaborate cross-functionally and clearly communicate findings and data insights
Day-to-Day Breakdown
- 80% project-based lab work (staining, assay development, sample processing)
- 20% operational support (sample intake, documentation, lab coordination)
Must-Have Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on histotechnology experience
- Strong expertise in histopathology assays (IHC and/or ISH)
- Deep understanding of assay QC, reproducibility, and documentation standards
- Experience working with FFPE tissue samples
- Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative lab environment
Nice to Have
- Multiplex assay experience (IHC/IF)
- Experience with spatial biology platforms (e.g., COMET™)
- Image analysis experience
Technical Environment
- Automated stainers (e.g., Bond RX)
- Microtomes and slide scanning systems
- Standard histology and imaging lab equipment
Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Histotechnology, Biology, Molecular Biology, or related field

- Small core team (~3 members) with extensive cross-functional collaboration (20+ stakeholders)

Interview Process
- 1st Round: 30-minute virtual interview
- 2nd Round: 1-hour virtual panel
- Final Round: Possible onsite

- Targeting mid-to-late May (earlier availability preferred)
